mess, Jesse Jackson shows up? Has he ever accomplished anything besides stirring the pot?
I don't mean that in a sarcastic way, I'm curious. All I've ever seen or read about were the times he's on a rant. I don't recall him sticking around anywhere to be part of forming or implementing solutions.
He's looking really old all of the sudden. I wonder if all that anger may get the best of him.

One concrete example I can think of offhand is in the early '80s when he secured the release of Navy fliers downed over Lebanon by talking to the Syrian government.
I guess I feel the way you do about Jesse when I see Dubya strutting around feigning concern... For instance, one of his visits actually delayed major food deliveries. From the NO Times-Picayune:

Saturday, September 03, 2005Bush visit halts food delivery
By Michelle Krupa
Staff writerThree tons of food ready for delivery by air to refugees in St. Bernard Parish and on Algiers Point sat on the Crescent City Connection bridge Friday afternoon as air traffic was halted because of President Bush’s visit to New Orleans, officials said.
The provisions, secured by U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon, D-Napoleonville, and state Agriculture Commissioner Bob Odom, baked in the afternoon sun as Bush surveyed damage across southeast Louisiana five days after Katrina made landfall as a Category 4 storm, said Melancon’s chief of staff, Casey O’Shea.
“We had arrangements to airlift food by helicopter to these folks, and now the food is sitting in trucks because they won’t let helicopters fly,” O’Shea said Friday afternoon.
The food was expected to be in the hands of storm survivors after the president left the devastated region Friday night, he said.

I hear you, CT. Causing division among the races is not cool. I agree with you Theresa. He should use his power to unite instead of divide.

I understand what you're saying. That would happen with all the security, etc; would be the same for any head of state. I guess there's a fine line: If he doesn't show up, people think he's uncaring. If he does, it creates a hassle.
I was in high school in the early 80's, so let's just say I was not paying close attention to politics! LOL!!
I remember seeing pics of Jesse sitting there talking with somebody in a turban. Is that it?
How did he manage to accomplish this? He's not a gov't official. Just off the top of my head there are several other men of the cloth I'd think might be a little less volatile to send in as a religious leader (if that's why he was sent) for negotiations.

I think Jesse just went on his own. This does happen sometimes - people acting as private citizens intervening in foreign affairs. Needless to say, that can be good or bad, depending on who it is and what they do and say!
