How funny would Leno, Letterman, and all the others be otherwise?
And he has such a way with words:
"Because the—all which is on the table begins to address the big cost
drivers. For example, how benefits are calculated, for example, is on
the table; whether or not benefits rise based upon wage increases or
price increases. There's a series of parts of the formula that are
being considered. And when you couple that, those different cost
drivers, affecting those—changing those with personal accounts, the
idea is to get what has been promised more likely to be—or closer
delivered to what has been promised. Does that make any sense to you?
It's kind of muddled. Look, there's a series of things that cause
the—like, for example, benefits are calculated based upon the increase
of wages, as opposed to the increase of prices. Some have suggested
that we calculate—the benefits will rise based upon inflation, as
opposed to wage increases. There is a reform that would help solve the
red if that were put into effect. In other words, how fast benefits
grow, how fast the promised benefits grow, if those—if that growth is
affected, it will help on the red." —Tampa, Fla., Feb. 4, 2005

Don't be so hard on the man, after all he has apparently learned that Africa is a continent not a country.
BTW. Did you hear that Arnold Schwarzenager said "I believe gay marriage should be between a man and a woman"

No - It's *my* turn to be Frank. Thanks Ahnold.
NOTE TO DR. BOB: This is merely jesting about language skills, or lack of them. Liberals and conservatives alike admit (and get enjoyment from) W's lack of coherent speech. It is not meant to be an attack on any person or any person's political beliefs. The following message is brought to you by SchoolMarms of America.
We all know how important education is.
George W. Bush's new Web site, www.georgewbush.com, states that the No. 3 priority of the campaign is
"Putting Education First." -- 7/19... Al Kamen, Washington PostAnd a quote:
"We want our teachers to be trained so they can meet the obligations, their obligations as teachers. We want them to know how to teach the science of reading. In order to make sure there's not this kind of federal — federal cufflink."
— At Fritsche Middle School, Milwaukee, March 30, 2000and my favorite quote (about education)
"Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"—

Just when I'm having fun, I've got to go out of town for a couple of days. Court Thursday Morning.
Who was it that thought politics had to be contentious?
I've been thinking of starting a web site of my own, a political forum modeled after this one, civility rules and everything. Aimed at the moderate middle 3/4 of America.

I hope all goes well, Mel.
If you start your own web site I want a t-shirt proclaiming its existence!!I can't claim to be a moderate anything since I'm not a citizen of the US. I try to keep my opinions quiet except in front of the TV. I love the Sunday morning talk shows!

It's a great idea for a web site, I think. I wish I knew anything about running web sites.
Being a non-citizen doesn't mean you can't have opinions. People all over the world have opinions about American politics. You have more rights than most - at least you are from the same continent. And you are exposed to it daily so you don't just see the odd sensational headline.
Court went ok, I guess. It was mainly an appearance because the case got transferred to yet another judge. We had a good feeling when the judge came out with his robe unzipped and no one made us stand. And the prosecutor argued for having the conditions of bail removed - saying the ones from the other judge were extreme {you know judge whatsit, nod nod, wink wink} and said something like 'geez they're just kids.'
Probably the first time my daughter was happy to hear she was 'just a kid.'
We were told before court that the prosecutor wanted to talk about a deal. Of course, my thought was any deal short of an apology and a refund of expenses wasn't good enough, but I wasn't going to tell her that.
Later we found out that she had my daughter confused with the other girl - the one with all the stuff in her room. So whatever that deal was, it wasn't for us. Later we found out from our lawyer the prosecutor is now talking like she might be inclined to just dismiss it.
So things might be looking up. Fingers are firmly crossed.
Approx. 4000USD later and counting.

I just don't feel *safe* expressing a non-conformist point of view in the too-close-to-it-for-comfort virtual police state that we get to live in. I have a good dose of paranoia from my few dealings with what was the INS. Just getting my name changed on my green card when I was remarried was an exercise in humiliation, degradation and a feeling of definitely being an Undesirable.

But we want an education system to educate every child. And here's our vision of how it's done. First, you must have leadership that sets high standards. It's amazing what happens when you have low standards. Guess what happens. You get low results. It's what I call the soft bigotry of low expectations. If you don't have high standards, you get lousy results, particularly in some neighborhoods. And that's unacceptable to a person like Lynn Swann and me.
