Teresa of Avila

Posted by zazenduckie on January 23, 2007, at 17:17:02

I'm reading the autobiography of Teresa of Avila. She suffered from morning sickness for years and so the night before she tickled her throat with feathers to get over it and be able to take communion in the morning. In 1530 or therabouts. I read "Holy Anorexia" years ago. I'm sure she was in it but I don't think I buy that feministic interpretation any more-any more than the psychoanalysts' who certainly had a field day with St T. I think I've had enough of clever theories and smug interpretations.

I wish I hadn't spent so much of my life in therapy.

How could you do this to me? I gave you the best years of my life. I want a refund.
