Having a hard time with self-control

Posted by Cass on December 15, 2004, at 20:02:39

I'm not sure if I've ever had an eating disorder before, and I don't think I do now, but I've definitely been obsessed with what I eat. I may be a little obsessed now too. I am a vegetarian who usually eats very little dairy, and I also eat a mostly plant-based diet. Eating this way has helped my health immensely, and I've lost a lot of weight too. But now the holidays are here, and I've been going to lots of parties. Pumpkin pie, cheesecake, chocolate and streusel swirl coffee cake not to mention cheese and crackers. I've probably put on about 7 pounds, and my clothes are tight. I just don't seem to have any will-power when fatty things and sweet things are placed in front of me. I haven't eaten any meat. That's never a temptation for me.
At home I'm really strong. I never buy unhealthy foods at the store. My diet at home is very healthy. It's just when I go out to parties that I feel I've lost control.
I don't want to undo all the good I've done for myself, but I'm really enjoying the parties.
I've tried eating beforehand, and I always feel that I'm full until I see the desserts, and then all the sudden I've got an appetite I didn't know was there.
What should I do?

Maybe try to get yourself into a mode where the thought of junk food makes you sick. For a while, I told myself that junk food was disgusting and that helped. Good Luck.
