eating pocket change...

Posted by karen_kay on March 20, 2008, at 8:17:40

so, yes, i have a 'change jar.' and yes, i am constantly picking up the change mister kk brigns home and putting it in the change jar. until last night, mister kk had no idea this jar even existed (he has no idea where anything is in this house. it's a wonder he can find his own clothes, and i think i may start moving those around on him, just to keep him on his toes!).

so, my son had a fist with somethign shiny in it. as soon as i saw him clenching something, i wnet to grab it and *poof* he made it disappear. a penny. in his mouth.

mister kk insists 'he will die. this is soooo bad. what should we do?' i insist 'i used to pick up nickels and eat them all the time. i remember doing it (yeah, i was weird, but we knew that anyway), and nothing ever happened to me.'

he's not fussy. it's been a week. i haven't noticed a shiny penny in any diapers, but i must admit i haven't been smooshing anything around either.

will his value go up, or will his intestines hate me for life? what to do (other than show mister kk where the change jar is, so he won't leave change out anymore)? and i don't want to do any uneccesary testing, as he'll for sure hate me, the dr's and anythign else he can sink his teeth into (not to mention the costs of xrays! ouchie!). i'm considering swallowing a penny myself, jsut so we're in this mess together.

yeah, i'm sick. i already said that. but, he's going number 2 normally, no belly pains, and is running around like normal.... anyone? anyone?

Do you have a regular pediatrician? My mom told me that when I was a toddler I swallowed a ring from a mobile we had. and my mom called our pedictrician and he said I would be ok. I don't think I even needed to go to the doctor's.
So with that in mind maybe you could call your doctor and just ease your mind.

but you might want to give his doc a jingle just for some reassurance. I think most of us at some point have swallowed something we probably shouldn't. (OK. knock it off.) Just recently I ingested an entire large pizza supreme, an order of bread sticks and two pitchers of beer. I figure if my gut can deal with that, a penny or a marble or two should be no problem. Relax. Nothing to be too concerned about.....save your worries for when he starts driving...now that's REALLY scary!!

PS If you really want to have some fun, put Mr. KK's undies in the fridge.

KK,

I can promise you he isn't the first kid to eat money and he sure won't be the last! You might want to give the pediatrician a call and talk to the nurse. They can do an x-ray if they feel they need to. But if the kid is breathing okay, eating okay, pooping okay, then he probably IS okay!

It is VERY serious though if he eats a button type battery!

When I was 5 or 6 I swallowed a dime. (Some neighbor kid said he kept change in his mouth and I decided to try it too.) My parents took me to the doctor, he did an x-ray, said, yup, there's a dime in there, and sent us home. My mom inspected my poo for quite some time and never found a thing.

I figure that I know I'm at least worth a dime in this world...

And... no, you're not a terrible parent because of this!

i was explaining this to mister kk's buddy and he told me a story that when he was little, there was a kid who would eat milk money. i guess he would give him 3-4 quarters (no, not that kind silly!) to eat daily, and the poor kid would jstu swallow them up.

apparently, he didn't spit out any milk or candy or even a soda pop! i wonder if a few days later, that kid would check his own turds, only to find about 3 dollars! maybe i should have tried eatign quarters instead of nickels?

thanks everybody!

KK, maybe he is another Donald Trump in the makings.
And this is where he likes to put his money for now?
Who knows, with kids it is always a crap shoot!!!

My son at two loved to run around and stick screwdrivers in electrical outlets for a hair-raising experience :) oh and set things on fire.

rsk

He is now almost 16 and has outgrown that:)
Girls took the place of running around in dizzy circles and he quit the screwdriver thing and he likes to drive the car. But still likes to set things on fire. So the moral of the story is they all grown up somewhat.

is a toaster! he too likes to plug stuff in, especially a leopard-print toaster and the phone. and those silly child-proof plug in things, he figured out the first day we got them. they're only purpose si so that, if child protection services were to come to my house, it LOOKS protected. (he also figured the 'baby' gate out real quick. either he crawls under it, opens it up, or uses his toys as ladders to be able to reach around and open it....) oh yeah, adn apparently he's figured out door knobs as well. he was in his easter candy this morning when i woke up. he's learned to not unplug the monitor anymore (it makes a hissing noise when you unplug it), and instead to quietly sneak out of his room. naptime was SUPERDUPER fun today, tryign to convince him to stay in his room!

i can't believe hwo quick he's growing up though. now, he not only cries when he trips over mom's shoes, he can also point to where he hurts. he also screams (and i mean SCREAMS!!! 'mom' all the time. i guess it doesn't help that i always answer in a sarcastic 'what son?' scream)

they're somethin aren't they? and my son won't drive or chase women. i'll plant an overwhelming fear of moving objects in his head, adn scare away all the women i can! it might be hard though, considering he comes from GREAT LOOKING genes!

here's to eating healthy (i had a frozen pizza today instead. that's healthier, right?)

Well, KK My son doesn't think he is good-lucking so the girls are still admiring him for afar. However, all his sister's college friends think he is so good looking. And I saw the way they were checking him out at the driver's ed class when I picked him out so it is just that he is not as clued in. So what is a mom to do, explain the ways of girls or leave him in ignorance. And they have been calling him on the phone. I can tell by the way they tell him bye when I pick him up from school, they like him and one asked him to the homecoming dance. They like him they are just waiting from him to make the moves. It is kinda funny the things you learn from your son. Like how the popular boys are just as shy and uneasy around girls. Wish I had known that when I was younger!!!!

But I can't imagine you uneasy around the boys!!!

Yes, my baby, is now almost 16, it seems like yesterday when he was 2.......

cherish these days, they go fast!

ps childproofing your house is only to make YOU feel better, it really doesnt work. I remember when we put that think on the toilet to keep our daughter out of playing in the toilet, she had a thing about playing with the water and her toys, anyway, we nearly wet out pants trying to open it the first time and SHE showed us how to get the DANG thing off the toilet. I promptly threw it away. Instead I gave her a bucket of water and shovel on the deck and let her play with it whenever she wanted and she stayed out of the toilet. Compromised became the name of the game.

Hi kk,

sorry to get onto this so late.

Am too tired to read all the replies, but want you to know that for years we had a coin attached to the bulletin board.

This particular coin had been through my son's whole digestive system!!!!!!!

Also one time a VERY large prune pit!!!

For all I know (not having read whole thread) it's been in one end & is now out the other.

Unless you smooshed the poop, it could have gone the way of all dirty diapers long ago.

hugs, from one mom to another.

PS - eating & pooping out coins is EASY......wait a few years.

OOPS - sorry - that WOULD deserve a PBC is guess, but I don't mean it nastily kk. You sound like a wonderful Mom & for now, I feel quite confident that following your intuition will serve you quite well.

Thx for pointing us over here (from Social) hun.

much love,Kath
