I'm going to try and get some jack kerouac for the ipod. A girl can dream alright?
Some audio books are really good.
Here's a good but morbid one, "A Long Way Down".

There are a lot of books I'd like to read (the ones I think I should but can't) that would be great on audio....Dostoevsky (although Crime and Punishment is coming along well), Proust and Sebald ("Rings of Saturn"). Some things are better read out. Unfortunately a deficient council plundered the money for our local library so we could have more development.

I haven't read any Nick Hornby. Should I?
Am I right in thinking his books from some way back were better reviewed than the more recent ones?

it's the only Hornby book I know actually, but someone mentioned it to me a little while ago, so I want to listen to it (again). Audio books are great for me in the car, makes the commute fly by :-).

there is a limited selection in audio books as far as I can see in my library. I have yet to request any particular title. I don't know if they are able to acquire requested items.

I must read Becket. He makes me laugh. As in...
# The tears of the world are a constant quantity. For each one who begins to weep somewhere else another stops. The same is true of the laugh. Let us not then speak ill of our generation, it is not any unhappier than its predecessors. Let us not speak well of it either. Let us not speak of it at all. It is true the population has increased."
#"We wait. We are bored. (He throws up his hand.) No, don't protest, we are bored to death, there's no denying it. Good. A diversion comes along and what do we do? We let it go to waste... In an instant all will vanish and we'll be alone once more, in the midst of nothingness!"
# "I don't seem to be able... (long hesitation) to depart."
- Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot

You see? I'm speechless. He's brilliant....
Estragon: What about hanging ourselves?
Vladimir: Hmm. It'd give us an erection.
Estragon: (highly excited). An erection!
Vladimir: With all that follows. Where it falls mandrakes grow. That's why they shriek when you pull them up. Did you not know that?
Estragon: Let's hang ourselves immediately!
This is the end of the thread.
