herbs for sleep apnea and snoring?

Posted by Jakeman on June 9, 2006, at 21:12:22

My local compounding pharmacy is advertising something called y-snore. Apparently it contains ginger root and yam. Anyone know anything about it or these particular herbs?

warm regards, Jake

oh please, say there IS something that works! My husband snores terribly and I sure think it would help my insomnia if he could stop!

I know nothing about the herbs, but I can say that breath right nasal strips help me (with the chronic congestion due to a certain furry creature cohabitating with me--on my pillow). So did deviated septum surgery.

And (don't laugh!) a saline nasal spray. It helps reduce the irritants in the nose and the swelling of the nasal tissues.

This is for the snoring, of course. I don't know as much about the sleep apnea.

Are you overweight? Normal body mass index (BMI 19-24) will prevent sleep apnea and snoring.

I probably could lose a few pounds. I'm 6-2 and weigh about 210. I seem to have a thick neck.. maybe from my weight lifting days. How do you determime BMI?

English BMI Formula
BMI = ( Weight in Pounds / ( Height in inches ) x ( Height in inches ) ) x 703

Metric BMI Formula
BMI = ( Weight in Kilograms / ( Height in Meters ) x ( Height in Meters ) )

Or use your favorite search engine and put in "BMI calculator"-you put in your height, it give you your BMI . You "should" weight 194-but bear in mind, BMI is just an estimate, if fact, one of the things they caution you about is that if you've weight lifted, you probably will have an "overweight" BMI. There are list of athletes and other people (George Bush comes to mind) who are overweight by BMI. I'm the same height and weight as you are, BTW.
