Any Ideas to Make PB More Vital?

Posted by ron1953 on February 23, 2011, at 16:13:45

OK, I've been shouted down, insulted, PBC-ed, and blocked regarding my views on the administration of this site, especially the enforcement of the civility rules, yet the obvious hemorrhaging continues unabated. If I'm wrong, then what is right?

In the past, there have been MANY reminders that this is not a democracy. I beg to differ - members have voted with their feet, walking away from here in droves.

They just might be cured.

I am cured too. I just post out of habit.

As for the question:
Maybe guest experts
Polls and/or topics of the day
Book or article discussions
more people stumbling across the site
Moderators, not also posters
But this requires resources

I guess there is war...and there is also famine, as my t has sorta said.
Or maybe our time here is done.
Partially too, I think we both hate and love authority figures. My best guess is that we need moderation, not just dr bob, not just posters, but something else. Maybe with that structure in place, policies could change, again that requires resources.

I frequently or not that frequently see articles posted from psych central. So articles like the new ad that was posted there the day the FDA approved it. And they have moderators. My complaint with the site is not getting notifications of threads you are posting on so with that as a model continue this format with moderators and news articles. Also back to adding to posts on meds "check with you doc this is just my experience or opinion". I like the whole body concept also as the mind, physical body, and thoughts are all intricated intertwined. Again just my own thoughts. Phillipa

Nevermind - This Place is Kaput

I honestly think it's too late. The damage has been done. The writing is on the wall.

It's a shame, though.

Hey, Bob - read the book "Being Wrong"

I agree
I believe a lot do
This fading hasn't been observed or predicted by just one
Many can claim the obvious

So many reasons
Some in direct conflict
Too much administration
Not enough administration
Posters talking too much
Posters not talking enough
Some posters peep and get handled
Others babble on and on and on never sanctioned
Lots of back scene gossip and rumors
Not enough warm community friendly feel

The contridictions are endless

The forums are destabilized
Unsafe
Untrusting

It is interesting Dr. Bob has not said how he feels
About the lack of traffic & activity.
Some posters up in arms
But wonder if the owner cares?

I've heard same as you and someone admitted sending babblemails to new people saying gossip. I wonder if Bob does care or not?

There is sadness
As I knew these forums
With vitality, support and information
Mebbe hindsight?

Private message option and private messages to
Owner have not been a good addition
Countless turmoils and flares trace their
Genesis

I would rather not experience the
Decline
Tried at "be the change you wanted to see"
Did not work
I limit my time here

An cleaner end would be better than a fade
Mebbe the age of forums like these is over?
Their usefulness
Gone

Everything ends
Eventually

Time is already telling

Other web areas more appealing
To me too
Less
Dramatic & Serious turmoil
Why seek out more of that than
Life has?

Technical Improvements

A rather obvious (seemingly) way to improve this site would be to give it a technical overhaul. This site was no doubt a technical marvel when it first appeared, but it has not kept up with changes in the web. I get a lot of errors that the script is busy when trying to read posts. There are also plenty of cosmetic and usability improvements that could be made that would serve to bring it into line with "web 2.0" standards. I could see potential users being turned off by the primitive, retro appearance and difficult navigation. Not least, such improvements would benefit current users.
