having an emsam/tyramine or msg reaction right now

Posted by Christia on January 2, 2012, at 22:02:25

This is not fun. My normally low BP (90/60 or 100/70) is up into the 150/85 range. I just took my first 9 mg patch today and had some restaurant soup this eve. 20 minutes later, the headache came on I remember from Parnate, but not as bad. Stopped at the drugstore, and my BP was 127/80. Bought a monitor, it is not good as the fluctuation is too great.

Here's the question. I asked the nurse on call the same one. How long do I need to monitor this? What is the normal time of crisis? An hour? A day? I am going to the ER if it doubles from normal, according to the nurse. Ideas?

Thanks!

Think you meant to post this on the medication board. This is administration board. How you are okay since you wrote this yesterday. Phillipa

Oops was not thinking clearly! I am indeed OK, but it was definitely a reaction. I was told by the pdoc to go to the ER, which I did. I just waited it out for 6 hours and then the BP dropped and I went home. I am really surprised that on my first day of nine mg a single bowl of soup would set me off. Do you think I should post this experience on medication, or just leave it be? I have not read of any other people's tyramine reactions on emsam. Thanks again for your help!

I definitely would post it on the medications board as right now quite a few on emsam. So you will teach others and get others viewpoints on your questions. Babble is about sharing and the more sharing we do the more help for selves and others. Phillipa
