I think that might be a good idea, but where would Dr. Bob live? Let's invite him over to Social. LOL

LOL

Weeeeeeeelllllllll I dunno!

I sort of like having the one area where (it seems) heated discussions (shall we call them), & that type of thing tends to happen.

I usually don't come here for that very reason. I rather like that those type of things get redirected here from other boards. It certainly helps me feel 'safer' on, for example, the Social board.

I'm not always up to being involved in or even seeing/hearing conflict, so I like it that I have the choice to go where it might be or not go!

good point Kath
I hate conflict.
it used to be that I never visited this board, I still don't read much of it, but sometimes it really upsets me. I suppose some of it comes from my history of witnessing some serious domestic violence. It just seems to escalate and escalate. I can choose to engage in it or remove myself from it. I sometimes want to react myself....

Dr. Bob is not evil and nobody else here is either. Can we stop now??

I agree with you 100%, Obsidian.

Yes, let's eliminate the administration board, right along with the blocks. And bring back all of the infinite and wonderful variety of blocked people
who are no longer here with us. Let's start all over again with one big babble party. I will bring food and drinks!

This is the wisest post I have ever read!

Thanks, Obsidian.

Admin used to be my favorite board. I thought of it as a process group. Now I think... Either that the process is basically circular or that it isn't really a process at all. Fayerody recently got blocked for something... I think people have basically expressed the same observation numerous times, but I can't quite remember how they managed to observe 'civily' as defined / interpreted by Bob...

I think that Dinah's advice about detachment is good. There is some optimal trade-off between attachment and detachment / dissociation that is optimal for participation here. Sometimes it is safer to withdraw, though. Basically... Bookmark certain boards and... Don't post / read here. I know a number of people do this. Of course redirects have a tendency to lure people back... Detachment. There is something to be said for it methinks. I even think that that can be the most rational position given certain facts about the attachment vs detachment of admin to the concerns that others express.

Everything about Babble when I first came here was a godsend. Now it is hurtful and I too wish I could erase my membership because I have witnessed too many good people being hurt in ways that just isn't necessary.

My problem in life is disengagement, disconnectness, and detachment. Babble gave me people to get to know, try and support and be able to release some of my inner demons that IRL people don't get. But now, with so little traffic, and so many boundaries that are crossed/uncrossed/ rules that seem subjective at least to my muddled brain inhibit the original Babble I first loved.

I miss the amount of posters that have left. I don't understand how the rules are enforced but I do know when people are blocked and I can't see them coming back it is saddening and maddening.

But all I can see now, is the light dimming at the end of tunnel for my own days at Babble. It now leaves me hurting.

I will find another home maybe. But I am now disengaging and detaching and just plain leaving like a dog with their tail between their legs for it is a leaving that is taking place due to so much hurt and confusion all in the name of civility and fairness and rules.

Yuck.

I don't dislike Dr. Bob or mean to diss him or be uncivil. But I guess it is his house and I can't live here anymore.

peace and wellness to all.

How about let's not visit the Admin board?

For those of us for whom it's feels too crazy & unsettling & upsetting, maybe it's best just to stick to the other boards?

I only came recently due to not noticing the 'twitter' choice at the top of the Social Board. My attention was drawn to the twitter thing by a post on Social, so I visited Admin.

For me, the Admin board often has such a very different tone from Social, where I usually am, & Psychology, where I sometimes am.

Sigh.

I hate seeing lovely people get so upset.

agreed. I don't know why I feel this need to put an end to conflict or tell other people when I think they are being unreasonable. I don't like seeing other people get hurt and to see how vicious things can get. *I am not trying to be uncivil at this point, but am trying to understand myself more. Again, there was a lot of domestic violence in my house, and I did have to keep one from killing the other (literally). My own anger however was unacceptable. and so, on goes the struggle.....

> I hate seeing lovely people get so upset.

You know, actually, it makes me angry. I think that other people can do a better job of keeping their venom in check. I could say a lot of nasty things too, but I don't. It seems like this is just a place to tell dr bob that he's an *ssh*l* just because he's the administrator and therefore supposedly this all powerful person here to f*ck with our heads. C'mon now, really?

See ya at Social maybe? I'm going away Saturday, so might not even be online much before that, but no doubt I'll be there when I get back.

I think that the fact that you are even able to function in any way at all is miraculous.

The fact that you are such a kind, caring, smart, well-spoken person despite what you've been through is wonderful. You deserve a medal - a wonderful medal made of lovely colourful, sparkley chrystals covered with magic flowers & butterflies, that are always fresh & happy.

it's an effort I tell ya, but I know there's all types of tough experiences we all live through

thanks kath, but it might not fit with my cynical and generally pessimistic demeanor ;-) I'd love to exorcise some demons (so to speak). Funny though, I wear medals kind of...but they are just symbols of what I need, courage, serenity etc.

thanks Kath :-)

It's great that you don't want others to get hurt. And posting that you're angry is fine. But could you please not post anything that could lead others to feel accused? Snakes have venom...

But please don't take this personally, either, this doesn't mean I don't like you or think you're a bad person, and I'm sorry if this hurts you.

More information about posting policies and tips on alternative ways to express oneself are in the FAQ:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#enforce

Follow-ups regarding these issues, as well as replies to the above post, should of course themselves be civil.

Thanks,

Bob

Snakes eat rats.
Cats eat spiders.

Snakes are friends of farmers.
And so are cats.

Wild, but true! I'll post a video of a cat hunting and eating a spider on social.
Your pup's smart, Phillipa - worms are high in protein. Hmmm...dried worm jerky. :)

it slithered into class and right under that table we all sat around
I climbed underneath and gently put it into a bucket and brought it outside..

....but I digress
I apologize. I suppose the venom/snake metaphor is a poor one.
I just can't take the hostility, coming from no one person in particular, but from many different people.
