If you claim to be new--and they don't show up--are you really new? I'm suspicious. I have always felt that this place is prime grounds for predators--vulnerable folks and what have you.

Hi Bobby,
It only shows up once - the very first time you post your first post - but you probably already "knew" that!
Sometimes, could it be a poster mentions they are new on the board they are writing on, but they made their first post on Newbies, or somewhere else? I guess you'd have to check every board to know for sure...
And I'm not sure if the technology is 100% perfect...or what it keys on - posting name, new IP address....
Maybe be mindful not to post anything that makes actual new people feel badly and/or that you might be calling them predators....not that you were....but experience here has shown me general statements are sometimes taken more personally than specific ones as some may ask themselves,"hey is he talkin' about ME?"
Just sayin'...
If I can find out a better answer from Dr. Bob, Dinah, or Racer, I will.

As usual---you're right 10der. I shouldn't have made a blanket statement like that----it was very late and I'd just gotten back from working overtime on Valentine's Day---not an excuse--only a reason. So----to ALL of the true Newbies---I'm very sorry--I'm just an old cynic-that's all it was/is. And--I didn't "know" that. Seems I rarely look into the nuts and bolts of things sometimes. Next time--I'll Babblemail my questions. Thanks..

I wouldn't go that far ;-) Not sure anyone who knows me here - and especially IRL - would, either. My goal is to not care if I'm right - I do better in that these days than just a few years ago.
>I shouldn't have made a blanket statement like that----it was very late and I'd just gotten back from working overtime on Valentine's Day---not an excuse--only a reason.
Sounded like a reason to me. And a good one. Working overtime = yuk :-( Hope you still got to enjoy part of the evening.
>So----to ALL of the true Newbies---I'm very sorry--
Thanks, Bobby. When I do/say stuff, then go, "oh cr*p that might've come out wrong, " I think of it as a pre-emptive (sp?) apology, just in case. I know you didn't intend to accuse anyone.
>I'm just an old cynic-that's all it was/is.
I am familiar with cynicism - trust me :-)
>And--I didn't "know" that.
I just figured, as you've been here longer than I have - way longer no doubt, you might have known. AND I was making my wonderful/terrible pun with new and knew - didn't you just love it!??! {choke}
>Next time--I'll Babblemail my questions.
I thought it was a good one to put here. Lots of people might wonder stuff about the green thingies - I used to... No worries.
>Thanks.
You're very welcome. I would say don't be a stranger to this board, but, OTOH, it IS *this* board - hmm, maybe being a stranger is better....at least we get to see you pop in with your pithy stuff on other boards :-)
Take care.
This is the end of the thread.
