Trouble seeing Archives??

Posted by Kath on February 6, 2009, at 13:54:19

I've tried to look at Archives on the Social & the Admin boards.

I have tried to click on, for example, "December". No result.

I have tried to double click on it. No result.

I tried yesterday and today.

Am I doing something wrong?

Is anyone else having this problem?

Thx, Kath

Could it be new tabs or windows (depends on your browser and its settings) are opening and you don't realize it?

Not sure where it would say 'December' as it would always have a specific date, e.g., December 22..?
================================
I went to the Social board.
I clicked on the word 'Archives" near the top.
A new tab/window opens called 'More Information About Psycho-Babble Social'
I see the list of archives by year 00 - 08.
I go to the 08 line and click on December 22 and a "new" PB Social board opens up for that archive.

Which part of that didn't work?

Let me know....

I clicked New Feeds & I guess I have to download a Microsoft "add-on".

I have to run it by my husband first, because, even though I 'trust' Microsoft company, I would hate if downloading it messed up something. I'll probably do that tomorrow.

Once we do that, if I still have problems, I'll ask for help.

Thx for your help. I guess it just needs a different program to read the files.

:-) Kath

Hmm...I don't know where/what New Feeds is on Babble.....you can teach me?! I know what they are in general, but don't use them....

I don't know why it would be a "feed" though. It's just a different web page location than the current board(s). Files moved to a different place - not changed in type or format, if that makes sense?

Can you see this link?

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/social/20081222/

That's the the December 22 Social archive.

Sorry if I am not explaining well :-( (nm)

Where there is another list of just the PB Admin Board archives? Those links won't click for you?

(Sorry - if I am being annoying just don't reply - I understand. I get really obsessive when I feel like I can't solve something here - just ignore me!)

Kath,

News Feeds is something entirely different. And I'll leave it to someone else to explain what. You don't need it to view the archives.

I had trouble a few weeks ago viewing the archives. I think that was due to my computer and today it's working fine.

If nothing seems to happen when you double click the link try right clicking the link and selecting "open in new window" (or new tab) and look for the new window. I've found that sometimes helps.

If that doesn't work you may want to post what browser you use (ie Internet Explorer, Firefox etc) and whether you look at babble with frames or without so someone else can try to replicate your problem exactly.

Jane

Yes, when I clicked on that link, it came up.

Let me try again & see if it works. Sorry - I got as far as talking with hubby about it & he seemed to think, "go for it" to download the whatever it is!

I'm not ignoring you & you aren't being hard to understand. The tech part of computer stuff is hard to me to 'get'.

OKAY - got it

Jane - I did the right click & open in new window & got the Archives!!! Thanks very much.

Re: News Feeds. I think I get that too!
Sometimes if I'm on the internet instant News Headlines will pop up at the top of the screen - like "Plane sinks in Hudson River" or "Flood causes massive damage" (Come to think of it - it's often negative stuff!!) If I click on it, I can read more.

I think News Feeds means that! That if we want them, we need to download a program that will provide that. I'd prefer not to myself.

Anyway I think that's what it means.

:-))) thx all, for your help

Kath

Hi You!! :-)

That top part appears when I click on Archives. When I clicked on THOSE archives you put there, they did come up with a double click on date.
On the Social Board, a double click didn't do it, but Jane's suggestion worked.

:-) Kath

good! and thanks to jane, too :-) (nm) » Kath

Frames just means that you see the list of posts on the left and the post you are reading on the right in a "frame". If you click on the link "Framed" above this post it will open a window with frames. There you will get a link to an unframed version. Personally I prefer that and have my browser set to go to that version automatically.

Thanks jane,

I think I sorta like the frames also.

I don't remember seeing you before! But I'm mostly on Social; hardly EVER on Admin & sometimes on Psychology.

Where do you frequent?

Nice to meet you Kath. I don't really frequent anywhere. I wander by once in a blue moon and actually bestir myself to post even less often. I'm most likely to read social and psychology these days if I am around.

Hello Jane D! I remember you from my newbie days. You were already a respected elder then :)

Nice to see you.

Gee, now if only Dr Bob would say "Let's keep it adminstrative here" it would really seem like old times.
