Jade agree. The med board has cycles. Lots of posts now on meds on social and pschology too. And anyone has the right to take what works for them ultimate goal is to feel good. Phillipa ps so when is neurotransmitters going to be something else? Was a suggestion of mine boy got off topic didn't take long.

Yes. There are frequently shifts in the areas of focus of the board as it follows its path through time.
I am very disappointed and a bit concerned with the reduced volume of posts on the Medical board lately. Does anyone have an idea as to why this is?

Don't you worry, I'll get right on that. Maybe, I don't know, a thread regarding the Parnate discrimination we seem to be facing? I'll call it "Parnate Discrimination". So don't worry yourself, I'll get a team on that posting problem ASAP. You just carry on, as you were :*)
Have fun!

My 2 cents...... when there is a large group of posters on a certain drug, such as parnate, repeated question are welcomed, no matter how long of a record-breaking thread is created.
Now, the poor poster that queries a certain med with little group following! They're usually tolerated for a couple of post's before someone tells them to look through the gazillion archives.
I've seen it numerous times. Not an issue for me as I spend little time at the site, pretty much search and go on to other things in my life.
I'd just like to see some patience shown for those that are not in the majority at any given time.
I'm sure some will dispute my perception, not a problem, I'm use to being in the minority! :)

Haven't seen you for a while hope you are well. Actually I just went down the whole board and answered any thread I knew anything about. Scott was saying the same thing. That we need more posters. I can only speak for myself, I think it bothers people when posts are made just for the sake of posting. So I try to make sure I have SOMETHING to offer that thread or person thats of value. Sometimes thats just support and thats fine. However, there is a poster on the board now who takes 4 or 5 meds, is having symptoms that I don't think we are qualified to "treat" and I told him to call his Doctor (in a supportive way).
So, as to sending people away, I certainly don't do that. But I also have limited knowledge and I don't feel comfortable trying to comment on medications I know nothing about.
As this post was directed to me I believe? Yes, I started the Parnate thread and I geuss it will wear itself out when its ready. But I hope you recall that I know you (and like you!) because I answered several of your night time posts when you were having trouble. Those didn't have anything to do with my agenda, I just wanted to help you.
I do hear and respect your opinion, any ideas?
Hope you'll get back to me!

As a new person this is very upsetting to me.
I wondered why so few people answered my cry for help. Maybe this is why.I am a moderator on an MS board and have been for many years and believe me we are strict. This would have been banned in a heart beat along with the poster. And with MS there are a lot of discussions on many drugs. (ADs in particualar because just about eveyone has depression.
We always address newcomers first! If not you get blocked from posting.
I was really hopeful because so many people were using Parnate and starting it at the same time I was. I guess this is not the place for me.Bye I will go it alone.

Sissy although I'm not the moderator I will attempt to explain to the best of my understanding about babble now. Right now it's undergoing changes. There in the past was a moderator here most of the time now we have what are called deputies who look for uncivil posts. Meaning sarcastic, saying bad thing about another. Really read the guide lines on civility. They are voluntary and look at posts when they can so someone always isn't here. A new system of notifying administration button under a post is to notify administration if a post is not civil. Any poster can. Some are determined to be civil some arent. And then sometimes a please be civil or sensitive are issued the poster. There is no official greater. A green flag next to a post signals that it's a new posters or they post on newbies board and hopefully someone will greet them and welcome them to babble. I believe I greeted you in your first thread on the meds board and then you posted again. I always try to at least say welcome even if I have no knowledge of the med the person is asking about. In this case I didn't. Then there are boards for different discussions. heath for health issue, social for more fun things, politics for political subjects, alternative for vitamins, herbs any alternative type of treatment. Psychology for therapy talk. There was a new board added called neurotransmitters that didn't please many people as lets face it some are expert reseachers and others are just people looking for info as you were. Usually there are all meds on meds board or a big selection and lots of people asking about different meds. You joined babble when maoi's were the biggest subject on meds. Seems meds board ebbs and flows with different topics. Some weeks SSRI's lots of threads, mood stabalizers, SSNRI's, Benzos, Antipsychotics. So This week seemed a lot of maoi threads. So I personally left the meds board and brought my concerns to administration where they should be posted. My concern since the neurotransmitter board wasn't being utilized and maoi use was on the rise maybe this should be the title. As the social and psychology board were where it seemed a lot of med questions were being posted and not redirected to the meds board. If you read the top of the meds board it gives a summary of meds and what to say. One thing that used to always be utilized was telling a poster to contact his doctor for any prescribing information. People would post their own experiences. It's rather mixed up it seems not but I'd like to extend an apology to to you and hopefully from all babblers that you felt mistreated. I'd love to visit your site do you have a link? Might learn something good to bring back here. Again so sorry you feel bad instead of supported here and do hope you will return. Please any other babblers who can explain better than me please jump in and help. Love Phillipa

What would be banned? Who would be banned? You would ban someone for verbalizing an idea that they thought would be helpful for the site?
Nice.
> We always address newcomers first! If not you get blocked from posting.
Forced behaviors?
Nice.
How about more of an invitation? You'll find the following at the top of the forum page:
"If you see a [new] member, please take a minute to say hi. They might feel scared, and a warm welcome might help them relax and partake. And they'll be more likely to come back!"
> I guess this is not the place for me.
From what you subscribe, I don't imagine your site would be the place for me either.
> Bye I will go it alone.
That was quick. Perhaps too quick?
You know, you did get replies to the threads you started, along with the posts you submitted along other threads. What were you expecting that didn't occur? Did you feel somehow rejected or abandoned?

You are a PIP!! But I mean that in a nice way. You yourself were disturbed by this topic yet you jump down my throat. Someone who is new and delicate (just kidding) I can deal! My husband was just like you. He always had to be the agitator. Just not a jetcone. LOL
There are a lot of feelings going on in this topic and I can understand that. This board is personal to anyone who has gotten or given help to someone else just as my MS board, and sometimes someones security can be tilted if they begin to feel left out. I think that is what is really going on here. This I can understand. They are used to boards being one way then it takes a flip. It will flip back in time.
I should have slept on it before I ranted. (Do most depressed people stay up half the nite like me?) I am sorry if I upset or hurt anyones feelings.
I have received 2 thank you emails in the short time I have been here. I have many years of experience in the mental health field and feel very good when I can help someone else. It takes my mind off my own problems.
But I also am feeling shame for being depressed! I taught Dr. Burns class for many years and cannot get out of this depression just yet. Talk about feeling like a failure.Thank you Scott for kick starting me. No more high horse for me MR. Sarcastic.

Dear Sissy35.
I can empathize with you. For over 10 years, I remained a recluse in my house with no human connections. When I came upon this site, it was a time for me to rebuild my social skills. I sometimes behaved in ways that I was not proud of, and that I would never think to do now. There has been genuine growth, and Psycho-Babble played an integral part in it.

Actually there are people from the MS board here. Its like a crossover. Almost anyone who has MS also has depression. They go hand in hand.
I did reply to your emal so you should have my address. I was concerned you might not read this because I see I goofed.
Can we put this in the past?
Thanks for the hug, first one I have had from an adult in 5yrs.
Thank you again

I've never been to the med board that I haven't received the information that I'm asking for.
I am not a Pmed "geek" and I am not up on anything except what I've taken or am taking. My med knowledge is more in antibiotics and painkillers. What you would expect from ER experience.
Because Wellbutrin is an "old" drug, I didn't expect to get nearly as much discussion, as I did, when I was in distress with the med. Posters that I've never met before added to the thread and offered help.I had a nice thread recently when I was concerned about my "low-grade" depression. Scott, in particular, talked to me about meds. A group also suggested three or four possibilities for me to consider.
In short, I do NOT understand the hullalaboo (that doesn't look right) over what meds are being discussed on any given day.
It's a med board and we all need information and I know that I'm happy with the med board help.

Fayroe guess a lot depends on which board you post on. Being that I worked psych and most areas of hospitals noticed a trend. So you worked ER And dealt with pain meds you'd be a great asset there the topic frequently comes up and thanks bob didn't know we were kind of redirecting med threads but whatever. Phillipa

I've read several books over the last few months, after having begun actually taking an SSRI, and wonder if people here know such "basics" as (off the top of my head, rather than a thorough review of what I've learned):
1. Most/many drug studies submitted to the FDA are biased, often having been done by those with financial ties to the drug maker.
2. Most/many so-called research papers are ghost-written for the drug companies.
3. For FDA approval, new drugs don't have to be better than old drugs, just 51% better than a placebo.
4. Most/many new drugs are "me-too" re-hashes of older drugs that the company just wants to extend the patent on. (E.g., Prilosec vs. Nexium.)
5. Legitimate studies show that SSRIs don't have a very high rate of actually working.
6. Science doesn't actually know *why* SSRIs do work, when they are successful.
7. Doctors get most of their "education" via drug salespeople.
8. Doctors aren't trained in statistics enough to be able to interpret even real studies.
So, there is very little *real* info for doctors or patients to go by for what the drugs actually do.
So a board like this is the ideal place for that type of info to be discussed.

Sorry to interrupt, but I'd like to redirect posts about medication to Psycho-Babble Medication. Here's a link:

The people who come here are treatmnent rsistant. That means they've probably already done the ssri thing and have not been pleased by the results.Their just looking for something more effective.

Just because posters are welcome to post about all sorts of meds doesn't mean that the folks who are currently posting are interested in posting about every med. There's no conspiracy. There's no mass pull out of folks using meds other than MAOIs. It's a trend like all other trends that have occurred on all message boards across the internet. It has no deeper, nefarious, threatening, or otherwise negative meaning. It's simply what's occuring. What may occur tomorrow or the next day or the next might be similar or might be completely different. And that won't have any greater meaning, either. It will just be. So can you let it just be?
