Actually, this is about phillisophical morality. There is no category for it. That is why it best belongs on social.
IMHO,

Hi Jay,
I'm sorry the redirect was upsetting for you, or however you'd characterize it. I'd like to ask though, what/who exactly do you mean when you say "admin"? Is your assumption about the group as a whole, some amorphous entity, individuals? I'm curious because, well, Dinah is part of admin, and I think she cares very much about other posters and about this site. Based on what I know of her, I'd be very surprised if she wasn't interested in discussing it with you further when she can. Thanks,
gg

I care. I care a lot.
If not, I wouldn't bother. There's pain of various sorts involved - often - but still, I find it worth it. (so far)
*Because* I care.
There's a balancing decision involved in redirecting posts sometimes. It's not black and white, but we ultimately have to decide to decide.
And to echo gg, Dinah *definitely* cares. Which I am pretty sure you already know, as you have posted kindly to her more than once in the past :-)
just my probably disjointed thoughts....

It didn't bother me at all. I didn't read it as a personal put down, more as a statement that it was sometimes not a productive endeavor to try to change the course of a redirect.
Which is probably true enough. Just for the record, I probably will redirect anything regarding proposals for legislators to Politics. And probably I will redirect anything regarding potentially "lively" discussions about the rich and poor or politicians or anything of the sort to Politics (which should probably be renamed something like Current Affairs). Although anything to do with religion, I'd likely redirect to Faith.
And to be fair, I'll now redirect all this to Admin.
Thanks for your patience. This will be increasingly important as the US elections loom, if board history is a useful predictor of board future.

That sounds like something I'd do, or I do do all the time. I even often engage in a conversation for a while before I wake up to the fact that it probably should have been redirected, and I was sending mixed messages by not doing that right away.

This is Admin.
The thread began with lemonaide's post on Social:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/social/20080929/msgs/855535.html
then was redirected to Politics (beginning with this post by Jay):
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/poli/20081002/msgs/856095.html
and then the posts about where posts should go were moved here to Admin, starting with this one:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/admin/20081003/msgs/856276.html
It can get a little confusing when there are several topic changes :-)

That is what all of these "redirections" feel like. By topic, they are multi-topic, so they fit well in social. If it was just one thing or another, maybe. But it's just one more way to quell the discussion. How nice people talk about how they saved .50 cents on a bottle of cheese whiz, but we don't want to talk about the millions who, every night, don't have a bed to sleep in because of this government.

Please don't be sarcastic or jump to conclusions about others. And please be sensitive to the feelings of others (such as posters who posted at the start of this thread) even if you don't agree with them, by not posting things that could lead them to feel put down.
Jay, I'm sorry deputy decisions to redirect parts of this thread are bringing up bad feelings. Honestly, our only motivations are to keep the appropriate topics on the appropriate boards (in keeping with Dr. Bob's wishes and prior practice) and actually, to *encourage* the different discussions. In the past, posters have been distressed by political, religious, faith, and other themes, likely to turn contentious, appearing on the Social board. Politics and Faith were opened precisely to make a place for those threads and leave Social as a place for a bit lighter topics and safer for those more sensitive to conflict, who were afraid/reluctant to post when Social included these debates.
If you or others have questions about this or about posting policies in general, or are interested in alternate ways of expressing yourself, please see the FAQ: http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil
Follow ups regarding these issues should be directed to Admin, and should of course, be civil. Dr. Bob has oversight over deputy decisions, and he may choose a different action.

I am just very, very greatly disturbed by this societal event. It's come close to the Great Crash of 1929. It's repercussions on the poor are going to be deadly on a massive scale. It's all over the news...everyone is calling it a true DISASTER on many levels. The thing is it is a FACT, not some idea or myth. I don't agree with the PBC for this.

As if often the case with PBC's and PBS's, it's the way something's said that can be contra to the civility guidelines, not necessarily the message itself. In many cases, there are ways to express the message that fit in with the civility guidelines. This is where a civility "buddy" can be of help.
>No sense bothering with it..nobody gives a f*ck..
For example, one might infer that the I-statement message underlying what you posted above could be something like, I give up. I feel all alone in my concern. True, its a different spin on the message. It keeps you as the subject and not others, and that may not have been your intent or preference. But saying it that way is not likely to be deemed uncivil or insensitive.>How nice people talk about how they saved .50 cents on a bottle of cheese whiz, but we don't want to talk about the millions who, every night, don't have a bed to sleep in because of this government.
Similarly, one could say something like, Hey, its great that you saved money on your groceries. Every penny counts, right? But what about those who dont have a bed to sleep in tonight because of the economy. What can we do to help them? Can we talk about that, too? If you wanted to keep in the idea of because of this government, I think youd have to say it something like, I fault the governments actions (or inactions or whatever) for this. Again, that keeps it within your own feelings and point of view while allowing that others might feel differently.
Im certain its not the topic itself, though I acknowledge you disagree.
