Ah. Thanks for saying that. Seems I was in a "taking things personally" kind of mood. And probably a bit of a snotty mood, too. Sorry. Hugs back to you, Kath.

I'm still in some kind of mood. I'm sure it's because I'm identifying with Dinah. I remember just how excruciating dialogs between deputies and Dr. Bob could sometimes be. I nearly always found myself again evaluating whether it was worth it or not after such discussions. It seems that Dinah came to a different answer this time, which is sad all around. :(

I'm thinking of her and the remaining deputies. I'm guessing there's some extra stress right now.

GG a question if being a deputy is voluntary and some of the deputies as well as the posters have high stress in their lives why wouldn't the admin try to eliminate some of the stress and not stress them further? I'm confused as usual must be the pain meds. Love Phillipa

What in the heck is going on?

I've been a babbler for many years now.
I survived the hacker, the morphing civility rules, privacy issues from posters etc...

Dinah is, without a doubt, a cornerstone in this community.

I don't know the events that lead up to her leaving, but I think I have a right to know and I want to hear it from you. I guess we all do.

Your input here is needed.

I ditto the above.

Ya know, this is a place that means a lot to a lot of us.

Right now, it almost seems like you don't care that some of us are concerned about what is going on & want to understand. Maybe you don't care. I view this place as one of support to people trying to cope with depression & other mental problems. As the owner of the site, I am asking you to please let us know what is going on, so as to allow us to 'process' it & deal with it. Right now I'm experiencing this situation as a BIG addition to the other stressors in my life. I do NOT believe that being a member of PB is intended to add to our stresses. It's certainly been a mainstay of support & caring to me.

You are the only one who can clear this up for us Dr.Bob.

We are asking you for an explanation as to why at least one of us, who has been a cornerstone of this "community" (or 'family' to some of us) feels she has to leave to be safe.

There is obviously some change coming up.

I do not understand why you are not commenting about this?

Would you at least please let us know either why you are not commenting?...or when you will comment?...or IF you will comment?

Thank you. Respectfully, Kath

I can't imagine that some matter of procedure would be more important here than the steadfast presence of Dinah. She has provided leadership, loyalty, unique insight, empathy and emotional support to everyone in the PB community for a number of years. If there has been one person exemplifying what is best here, it's her.

How can you allow rules and/or procedures to take precedence over a person who has given countless hours to make Babble a vibrant, valuable presence in our lives.

This is one time when it is very important that you answer us directly.

I was sure I would wake up this morning to find some type of posting from Dr. Bob. It was rather disappointing to see nothing from him.

Why he is not addressing such a serious issue; losing 2 experienced and excellent deputies over what sounds like a rule change, is beyond me.

I guess he has more important things to take care of. I feel that this board is probably not his #1 priority.

Hopefully we can get SOME sort of answer soon. It's killing me to lose these deputies without any understanding of the issues at hand.

Dr. Bob, could you PLEASE, PLEASE address this TODAY?

Thank you very much for your courtesy,

Phoenix1

That's the post she mentioned, but I don't think it's really going to make anything clear. In fact, it may make things worse :-( I wish I could assist, I really do, but this is 100% Dr. Bob's issue. To paraphrase Dinah, I *know* I wouldn't state the new idea/method/change of Dr. Bob's as he would, or at least not frame it the same way. So I just can't speak for him and I will not. In fact, I understand so little of his POV, I couldn't explain it if I wanted to.

>I have been too upset to post since this.

I am so sorry, rsk. I wish I knew what else to say, but I don't. Don't be afraid. Posters are still here, and posting continues. Get support, do as you have been - it's okay, really. That all sounds simplistic and weird, but I mean it, I don't think that any of this will ultimately fatally wound Babble. I think Babble will continue.

>It looks like in light of this and all the deputies leaving or those that were previous ones leaving

Except for what Dinah has said she's doing as a deputy and/or poster, no current deputies are leaving. At least not right now. Anyone might choose to end their volunteering as a deputy for any number of reasons at any time. But Racer is not leaving, I am not leaving and Auntie Mel isn't leaving (isn't active lately, though.)

Unless I missed something, no former deputies actually said they were leaving either. ??

>Babble is indeed in trouble and with our queries being unanswered it leaves me to believe something serious is going on and that makes me more uneasy.

I get that, but as far as I know, nothing serious is going on (of course I don't know what you have in mind exactly) more than what Dinah has been comfortable sharing here. Policy changes, already started, it seems, as yet not explained or up for straightforward community discussion here. Nothing more than that. Only Dr. Bob knows for sure, but that's my take.

Hope that helps, not hurts more by adding confusion and fueling speculation. Seems like a bit of a no win position to be in for deputies - and Dinah - at this moment.
:-(

Toph,
You wrote that [... hypothesis is that the vitality of this community seems to mirror the interest of...].
I wonder if that could be statisitcally determined or if there is another method to use to arrive at that hypothesis? If there is, could you post any criteria that could be used to determine your hypothesis?
On another note, do you have an opinion as to if the 3-consecutive post rule here is in any way something that is good for the community as a whole or not? If so, if you have an opinion as to if it is good or not, could you post that here?
Lou

You know when I saw the notify admin button and see if this works better for generalizations I felt hurt as my BP post is the only time I've seen that rule used and to me I felt since I'd been blocked for it that it was no longer necessary. Might sound confusing but even on pain meds I know what I mean. Phillipa

Hi Lou,

My hypothesis is just a hunch based on a combination of anecdotal evidence and sour grapes. I noticed when people started complaining about Bob's absence that posting (including mine) seemed to wane.

As for the 3-post rule, well, I don't like rules in general. Ironically, I think this one originated out of a thread I started if my memory serves me. It seemed to be a response to general frustration after many other attempts to solve a problem failed. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think this one was Bob responding to a public appeal. It's livable because it doesn't fundamentally prevent expression only frequency. Again, I'm not a fan of restrictions. I think most of us feel bad that this one was necessary.

Toph,
You wrote,[...a hunch...response to general frustration...solve a problem...I think.. Dr bob responding to a public appeal...doesn't prevent expression...this one was necessary...]
Thank you for posting that it was a hunch.
I have a want for clarification and identification after reading your reply to me concerning the 3 consecutive post rule. Could you clarify and/or identify the following for me? If you could, then I could have a better understanding of what you are wanting to mean so that I could respond accordingly. If you could not post here the clarification and/or identification that I am requesting, could you post why you could not?
A. What criteria did you use to write [...seemed to be a response to a (general) {frustration}...] as to what to you constitutes the frustraion seemingly to being {general} and how you determine that a frustration exists and what the frustration entails? Along with any reply, could you use a number of members posting about one's posting more than 3 consecutive posts that could constitute a {general} fruatration?
B. In your posting here,[...solve a problem...] could you post here {what the problem was}?
C. In your posting here,[...I think that Dr. Bob was responding to a {public} appeal...], could you post here what the criteria was that you think Dr. Bob used for you to use the word {public}? And also, how many members wanted to {solve the problem} and as to that number, what is the criteria that could be used to render the appeal to be {public} and a {problem}?
D. In,[...doesn't fundamentally prevent expression...], could you post what you are wanting to mean by {expression}?? If you could, then I could respond further.
E. In,[...I think that most of us feel bad that this one was necessary...], could you post what your rationale is for concluding that [...this one was necessary if you are one of those that feel bad and if you are not one of those that feel bad if you think that the rule is necessary...] by including what could happen if there was not made the rule? If you could identify what you think could happen if ,let's say, I was allowed to post 4 consecutive posts, then I could have the opportunity to see any reasoning in the rule that you are using to post that there was the criteria of, at least some thinking that the rule is necessary, being necessary, and post a response to that reasoning here, for the TOS states that the rule was made, at least, so that members that Mr. Hsiung describes as [less-confident} are accomodated in some way by the rule.
