I'm suffering from FOP

Posted by MidnightBlue on February 19, 2008, at 23:11:51

That is Fear of Posting. Why?

1. I don't want to be uncivil to anyone or any idea.

2. I don't want to be easily googled even though I am careful not to put identifying details in my posts.

3. I am concerned (always have been) about the permanent nature of what I write.

So Babble is less helpful to me then it could be if I felt I could be myself. Where have all the posters gone? I don't know, no one told me when they left.

Yup, been there. Go there several times... writing posts, deleting them before I commit to posting them because I'm not sure I've been civil. It's a yuck feeling. I guess it's better than being PBC'd, but that fear is not a good feeling.

I think that becoming suitably vague about personal details is an art (one that I sure haven't mastered). One way around that issue might be a change of posting names, but then you might end up with people here not knowing who you are, which might not be your intention.

I hope you are able to overcome your FOP - mine comes and goes.

I don't think one needs to feel bad when you get blocked for doing something that wasn't wrong. Most posters eventually get blocked. I see it as a rite of passage. I aspire to getting blocked myself one day. Live dangerously!

If you don't put identifying stuff, they can't identify you can they?

I miss so many folks who used to post. It feels like having family 'ripped away'.

PS - sorry you have FOP. Do you think it might change?

Support from others may make it easier not to be blocked by fear. Maybe ask another poster to be your "civility buddy" and to preview those posts before you submit them?

I don't anyone has left per se, I think they are all blocked!

I won't be here as much and for the same reasons you stated.
