I was a little shocked when someone was blocked for "generalizing".
Think about it? What's human thought and language based on? Didn't the first caveman have to "generalize" to even come up with a word?
Now people are being blocked for "generalizing"? What's next?
More and more, I see this for what it is: a sort of "language game" experiment set up by Dr Bob that has little, well zero, to do with the psychological health or well being of the participants.
I used to help invent these experiments and games when I was a student at the University of Oregon and part of their "Cognitive Lab". But this was back in the 70's. Geez.
So, good luck, and all. I supposed I'm blocked. Happily. What a twisted place this is.

I read Viktor Klemperer's WWII diaries "I Will Bear Witness". While blocked from his University job because he was Jewish, he studied the perversion of the language by the Nazis to control the population and reshape the German culture Very moving. He published a book about language after the war but I haven't read that.
Lovely to see your name again. I hope you are well.

Well you're not blocked yet. I have nothing sensible to say about this generalisation business. It seems to have arisen solely on the Medicines board in response to assertions about certain therapies.
How pleasant it is to see you round these parts.

I thought I was blocked, acutally, a little disappointed really. I was hoping, in spite of my heavy use of adverbs, I'd be blocked again.
Is "generalize" spelled with a "z"? Maybe that was my problem. I never could spell and love to replace "s"'s with "z"'s.
How do you "over" generalize and when you do, be penalized? Dr Bob "over" generalizes just about every time he opens his trap. I mean, I nearly laughed out loud and spit coffee all over the computer (well, that actually happened).
So Dr Bob can "overgeneralize" with free reign and posters are abused into over "specializing"? (should a "z" be in there?) Posters need to be specific?
What's next in the crazy-making, mind-games: too much of being specific?
Look back at most of Dr Bob's posts. He paints with a broad brush and generalizes all the time - overly so.
Again, I repeat, this is such a sick game he plays.

By the Way, Babblemail never works when someone is blocked. I should know.

I know you have no interest in politics, so I shall restrict such remarks to the fact that our former PM reinstated the spelling of 'programme' thus.
Every time I type in 'generalise' I am told my an impudent computer program (I'm not rigid) that my spelling is at fault.
It is just on the Med boards that this has become an issue, and only because people get upset if someone says their preferred therapies suck.

When people are blocked, they're still supposed to be able to receive babblemail. If that's not working, let me know and I'll look into it. Thanks, and sorry about blocking you again,
Bob
