There have been several civility infractions in this thread by various posters, yet it seems to be only those posters who express an undesirable viewpoint who get rebuked.

I just hate to see people become institutionalized by psychiatry (not in the literal sense).>>

In the not quite literal sense, however, this has just happened.

The points you made were thoughtful and cogent, too bad they were judged out of bounds by a standard that appears to be the opposite of thoughtful and cogent.

It's been awhile for me. Stuff was bound to happen for my lack of kowledge of the status quo.

I'm having trouble finding the post that you sanctioned. I just would like to see the context within which I should have made the comment. I would like to review my mistake. I apologize if I had made one.

Would those words also be uncivil if not directed towards anyone in particular.

Any light you could shed on the subject of civility guidelines as they apply here would be helpful.

Is "agenda" a bad word when used to describe anything other than members of PB?

Scott I feel things have changed a lot since you left. Now that is just my thought not directed to anyone but you. If it's offensive to you if so apologize in advance. I appreciate your presense. Thanks for being here Phillipa

Thanks, and I'm glad you're open to reviewing it. Your post was:

I think so. Your post was directed toward someone in particular, but you didn't specify particular "people". But that means anyone might have thought you were referring to them.

> Is "agenda" a bad word when used to describe anything other than members of PB?

It was less that they might defend an agenda and more that their agenda might matter more to them than the truth.

I hope that makes sense,

Bob

Thanks for replying, Dr. Bob.

I guess the reason I was so taken back by the PBC is that I had no intention to direct the comment towards anyone in particular - PB or otherwise. Civil or not, it is an observation of mine that the things I described are to be found in society. I hope whomever was offended by my post will take this into consideration.

I wish I had a better memory to know what was on my mind when I composed the post. You know, I don't even know who it is who might have taken my statements as a personal attack. Since I can't really place myself in an objective position, I really don't understand how my statement could have been taken as a personal attack. In other words, I just don't see it.

I can't apologize until I understand what I did wrong. I'll work on it. I like the exercise in civility that can be practiced here. It is one of the things that I consider a most important learning experience. It is far more important to me to learn civility rather than continue to be defensive against criticism.

I'll work it out.

Scott wasn't me as I can't do any statistics. Actually your intelligence is far above mine. Love Phillipa

Just to be clear, I didn't mean to imply anything about intention.

Hmm, specifying "in society" might've helped keep people here from thinking it applied to them.

> You know, I don't even know who it is who might have taken my statements as a personal attack.

Just to be clear, they might have felt accused without thinking you had them personally in mind.

I very much appreciate your seeing this as a learning experience.

Bob
