I kind of like watching the twists and turns a thread takes, so I'm not sure I'll use it.
But I think it could potentially be a useful feature.

What and where is it as I've always seen threads change direction hence I get on some to see where they will go. Phillipa

There is now a small box with a "-" inside of it beside (in front of) the first post in every thread.
Click on it a couple of times, and you'll see the thread collapse, then expand again.

If you have cookies, there's an option at the top of the board to collapse the threads every time you open the page, after this time.
And I think the idea is that some people like the cleaner look of the collapsed threads.
