AOL users have problems using the boards?

Posted by Racer on October 12, 2007, at 11:38:52

My therapist came to the Psych board here and said she couldn't get into any of the posts. I know that, way back when I used the underlying script, the old versions of AOL's browser had trouble with it -- the old version didn't like the cgi-bin, so it wouldn't work. I can't believe she's using a machine THAT old, though.

Has any AOL user had any similar problems? Any ideas on how to deal with it?

Thanks.

I have nothing whatsoever relevant to add to your thread/question, but I just have to say that.......

...the first 8 words in your post SCARED THE H**L OUT OF ME!!

Eeeeeeek! But, I'm sure there's a perfectly nice backstory, and context and a good reason, and all that, which of course, aren't topics for Admin, or any of my business, for that matter ! ;-)

{heart rate is finally slowing back to normal}

Try not to scare me like that again, 'kay?

Dear Ms 10derHeart,

The sweet backstory, if you will, is simple: I've talked about Babble, and my T wants to visit. I've even told her I hope she can figure out which one I am, although I rarely post on the Psych board anymore, so maybe she won't...

Scary, huh? At least this is the season for it, right?

xoxo

I'm a AOL user and never had any problems in my 3+ years here. I use wi-fi and a newer computer.

I agree with 10der ... I talk about "the boards" but never give the name. I'd rather she not find out the exact site. But it's great that you are so comfortable to share this with her.

What happened when she tried?

She said that she could see the main board page, but none of the links to individual posts worked for her. I do remember that the old MSA script and the old AOL browser were mortal enemies, but I can't remember quite what happened -- only that AOL didn't venture into other servers' cgi-bin.

Thanks.

Maybe suggest that she look at:

I have some tech background, and have been very cuious about this posting. I know that AOL users can use the service as their ISP, and then IE as a means of "proxying" in... so to speak... (tech lingo may not be so hot).... but the question comes whether or not they are getting access if they are using the actual AOL browser within AOL itself. IF i find anything out, I will post updates. Another question would be as to what version of AOL they are using... I recently read that AOL had teamed up with Microsoft to make their browser somewhat IE like... but didn't get all the specs, and this could be old news.
