Could you please do something to publicly acknowledge all the hard work that the deputies do for you, without pay or thanks. Maybe you thank them off the board, but I would think it would be nice for the deputies if you showed them just a little bit of on-board support. They work really hard for this site and it seems like all they get are continual criticisms and ever more work as you are around less. And if they decline to take on the work, the board suffers.

I think it would be nice if you could support your deputies a little bit.

I do agree. But I also think part of the problem is that, due to civility and verbiage constraints, vagueness is created in posts that may make a whole group of people feel complained about or accused, who are actually not being complained about or accused... (omigod, i've officially inherited the dot dot dot thing...)

oh yes, it's fine and even helpful and enlightening when us average citizens use it. it's just when The Power That Be uses it, that some kind of avoidance or commitment-phobia is written all over it, ya know?? lol!! but there's a little truth to every joke. ;-)

ah...I see, the symbolism of the ...!

the carefully worded post
the politically correct and conflict free remark
the unflappable, the inaccessible, the neutralizing
the frustrating

ode to the ...

oh i hate it when I see
a group of dots in number 3
those dots that make a question mark
leaving readers in the dark
so leave your dots! it's anarchy
...on second thought I'll let it be

... i absolutely love it! in fact i even searched a few lines from it, as i was so impressed by it and its expedient appearance that i thought maybe it was a quote from an esteemed poet! bravo, bravo!

and wow, that number three sure does recur a lot in these parts!

(((((((Dinah)))))))

I'm sorry I started a thread that caused you more hurt. I really was trying to thank you for all your hard work and get you some recognition for that. I think you and all the deputies do and amazing job here and I think that your decisions are always well-considered.

Again, I apologize. I really didn't mean for this thread to end up like this. I thought people would add some support for the deputies.

Oh, your post was fine, sunnydays, and I so appreciate it. :)

You know in the old days there were a lot of posts like that. People would not argue with negative things, but post positive things to deputies. It made a lot of difference in how we perceive we're perceived.

Please don't blame yourself.

I don't even understand the rest of the thread. I just feel sad about it. But that's *not* in any way your fault.

Thank you for your support, and I'm sorry I didn't say that earlier.

I have a lot of respect for people here on Babble, and that includes, and really, especially includes, the deputies.

Not just as deputies, but as individuals,. IMO the deputies here are really extraordinary people; I feel lucky that they come to the site and make it, with their presence, a special and so valuable place. And that they devote so much time and thoughtful concern-- to making sure that I, and others, have this opportunity to get to know them and others here.

I feel sorry that I haven't posted that before, or in response to some of the recent conflictual threads in which deputies, or ex-deputies, have been partial subjects of the discussion.

This might be the time to thank GG for all the work and caring she's put into babble, and wish her the best with her current projects. I very much hope she'll continue to post, even if occasionally, to let us all know how she's doing. Her contributions have meant a lot to me. I hope to get to know her better as a poster, if not deputy.

I feel gratitude and respect for everyone who's a deputy-- and my not saying it is only in some sense not wanting to seem too "goody-goody" when other posters seem disturbed about an issue. But this may not be fair, and may hurt everyone, since the positive that we really feel for one another can sometimes get lost when the intensity of our caring moves into more negative moments, of being hurt and often not what to do with those feelings. I've been there, at least, and I know for me that's been hard--- but we all are learning, too-- which gives me a lot of hope.

I hope, by the way, that nothing I've said is uncivil. I don't mean to say what others are feeling; but I know that I at times am hurt by things said and done-- and because I do care, it is hard to say just the right thing.

Honore

**Dinah you so NOT an idiot.
You give lotsa support.
Your very good at stepping back and remaining calm and rational.
You got your own stuff going on and thats hard too.
I'm not sure exactly what your post here is about. But cept mebbe you feeling kinda messed at all the goings on in general. Its sorta like mebbe babble goto decompress after the tension of Bob 'dissapearing',as he himself puts it. The hacking on top of it all. All the name changes and disruption... Just like in a irl family. But then it blows over, and things ease up, and we can get back to caring bout each other, and helping each other more, and accepting our own humaness, and the humaness of others.
You ARE appreciated. You are human. So if you having a hard time thats OK. Try and be good to yourself as you can OK?
Mebbe your like me, feeling unsafe and easily triggered.
Take special care of our Dinah OK?
Muffled

Dinah, this thread took a turn towards the silly (I'm sorry about that sunnydays), but the dot thing was only about Dr. Bob's habit of ending with three dots. You know, that his answers tend to be either questions themselves or followed by dots that somehow turn them into questions. (Even his biggest fans could good-naturedly kid about such aspects of his style.)

And the rest of the thread was only good stuff, about how deputies deserve more support from Bob. And I agree with that, and also wanted to add that I don't think most of any complaining going on is meant broadly against deputies. And that some of it probably pertains only to admin and policy as usual, not to deputies at all.

I think Sunnydays' point comes in again there -- one way Bob could support you guys more would be step in and address more situations himself, when it looks like policy is at the core and not actually the deputies who are just trying to follow it.

I'm sorry anything here made you feel bad!

Three dot journalism -- RIP Herb Caen

For many, many years, there was a columnist in the local San Francisco newspaper named Herb Caen. His column was -- kinda like a gossip column, I guess? But the three dots were one of his trademarks. That's where I picked up the habit, although I have to admit I've tried hard to get rid of it.

To no avail...

Dinah,

I hope you know that my post was not really directed toward anyone in particular...yeah sure bob in his administrative role, but I really don't get particularly upset at his diplomacy...even though I notice it

it works for me I guess I'm saying

but really, I use the dots!! I was commenting on the "space" we use, that a lot of people use before maybe saying what they think

oh dinah..I'm sorry. I was being silly.
I didn't mean anything hurtful

to powers that reflect back to you rather than provide an answer maybe?

there is a thoughtfulness there and thus an encouragement of thoughtfulness on the part of the other

I guess I was less than thoughtful

I really need the dots :-(
