what if i post something very serious?

Posted by rjlockhart on June 10, 2007, at 0:39:08

Im not talking about getting blocked, im talking about my frustation with life, and actaully saying i want to attack a that i know (at work).

Will this be used against me later?

If i post something really intense, (i mean bob, i have to post out my frustrations) would you use that against me, or tell other mental help or organiations i need "help"?

Please i need to know because i may begin to post intense stuff.

Thank you

Rj

Matt anything you say can and will be used against you.
On this site you cannot delete posts.
Bob WILL NOT delete posts, don't fool yourself into think he will. He will NOT.
Is there some other way you could get out your frustrations?
I seriously don't think this is a safe place to do so.
There are other sites (I think) where you can delete posts, but NOT here, so be careful. Think first.

sh*t i have alot of posts, and when you type in my name,

in google, sh*t the first thing that comes up is "treatement" suicide.

My freind did this and now think im crazy.

Danmmit, i just posted some serios things that did hurt me, but now im not ever going to post those again.

I seemed to be a bit hypomanic when this happened. Its 1:20am in the morning.

Oh god, let just see how life can screw you?

change your posting name.

you can't make the past go away, but if you change your posting name now, at least there will be a break between what Rj posted and what some new user name post now.

Your friends here will still know who you are, but google will get confused.

Maybe ask your friends here and yourself to stop using your real first name too.

Also, posting your very real intense thoughts may be therapeutic, but think about how to do it in a way that is about your feelings and not sounding attacking so that it is just "theoretical" and leads to support and not any kind of real life concern.

I hope my thoughts about this are helpful in any way to you. peace.

Given the patterns of your past postings and specifically, your recent postings, I urge you to be very very careful of the stuff you post and stuuf you feel the need to vent. Threaths to others are not something, I believe, if you really consider, you really want on a public board. Anyone with internet access can read your messages and yes, it can be used against you, this reality is made clear in the FAQ. You may regret a *kicking @ss and naming names* posts and it may not be a prudent action to take when posting. That, in and of itself, could get you into trouble.

Venting can be fine but I urge you to consider the repercussions. Prehaps work on using some impulse control and try filtering the information you are posting.

ok,

Yes i read both of these posts, what is really going to suck is this can be used against me like in 10-15 years later unless Dr-Bob.org shuts down

I may change my posting name, or well see people get curious about me and type my danm name in to google. Yup thats the firist thing they see "treatment for matt" suicide, that was like 2-3 years ago when i didnt know to scratch my watch or wind my butt, very confused, plus i was like 17. Im 20 now.

Next i may keep my screen name, but stop this can be used against me. Like if someone types in my name just thinking mmmmmmmmmmm matt *****onthy im going to have to explain what was going on at that time, why i post here, and other stuff.

But thank you for tell me this.

Matt

Or you could just tell them that it's not something you wish to discuss with them. You're allowed to set that boundary for yourself.

Matt,

I'm glad you read my message in the spirit it was intended by me.

It was easy for me to be lulled into a comfortable, complacent and unconcerned manner when posting as I felt I was conversing with a community of which I was part. It was difficult to wrap my mind around the open and easy accessiblity, but the truth is, the board is public for reading. Our posts *belong* to Dr. Bob as the owner of this site and according to site guidelines, however, we are accountable for what we write and there is the potential to be held responsible.

Please be careful

To add to what muffled said, it would be nice if those who might know someone's real name did not use it in posts. This would help to some extent to be more annonymous. And if you need to talk to some to vent your frustration, I guess there is the chat rooms or babble mail.

Perhaps he should not do that anymore, and/or if he changes to a new name, don't sign his real name, and hopefully people who might know who he is anyway won't refer to him by his real name in posts.

Given that he apparently does use his real name, that is his right and though it may not be wise, I will not use his real name in a post or babblemail or anywhere else. I would want this for myself.

I think that's an excellent point.

I also think if we know tidbits about someone such as: their living location, place of work, names of their family, etc. to not post such information either --- even if the poster has disclosed the info. I have seem such information, some of which the poster did disclose and some gleamed from other sources or personal correspondences. Technically, disclosure of such does violate the civility rules, BTW.

I cringe at some of the personal indentifing info I have read here. Being *known* can have very real dangers and cause real troubles.

Careful thinking about posting and responding is always a good idea.

Hello, "just" a lurker here, but had to come out to tell you this. From the time I first saw the above name, I assumed it was a handle based on the celebrity Matthew McConaughey... only without much attention paid to the exact spelling (who could blame you, just look at it!). Really.

Maybe this current thread at least, could qualify for deletion based on pretty exact details alluded to. From there on -- but in any case, regardless -- this "Matt so-and-so" handle was just something fashioned after a celebrity who someone here, not necessarily you, admires in some way. Or had just adopted to be funny, etc.

Yes some life details have also been alluded to over the years, but I think the above might still be the best bet for achieving what you seek. I mean it when I say that I *always* thought you had borrowed the name from the celebrity Matt so-and-so.

Best regards,

confuzyQ

I'm referring to placing information in posts which state or elude to info on another poster. I have seem this done. Tidbits added are like painting a picture - a drop here and a drop there and pretty soon a clear picture can emerge.

I think we should be careful with other's information even if they choose to share it themselves. Just because we are priviedged to be privy to private info on others does mean we should share it and refer to it in a post, IMO.

Hence why I use babblemail only to obtain e-mail addresses or trivial chit chat. Some people will only babblemail so I try to be very careful. So are you saying that not only Dr. Bob has privy to babblemails as was always stated before? Thanks Phillipa

i'll be honest, i stay away from admin generally, and i didn't read the responses to your question.. i am too tired and angry about my own situation. But i would recommend to you seriously, now while you have the forethought, to NOT post anything serious about anything really. Bob has some policy about not removing posts, which can lead to difficult and dangerous results. This fact is apparently unimportant in the face of policy.

If you have second thoughts, then do not post it. If you are in crisis, do not post it.

i am sorry that i am speaking through my own filter, but i see potential for a problem for you based on my own experience.

No, that's not what I meant to imply.

I don't know that Dr Bob does have access to sent BabbleMails. He may, but I don't know about that part. I do know that the deputies cannot read BabbleMails that have been sent.

On the other hand, civility guidelines apply to BabbleMails as well as to posts on the boards. That's what I was referring to. And, just as there is a protocol in place for notifying Dr Bob and the Deputies about posts which may not be civil, there is also a protocol about reporting uncivil BabbleMails. When a potentially uncivil BabbleMail is reported to us, we can all read any portion which is forwarded. That's the only access we have to BabbleMails: those that are forwarded to us, because the recipient thought they might have violated the civility guidelines.

I hope that cleared up my meaning.

Racer, posting as deputy for Dr Bob

I don't. But I do agree that:

> we should be careful with other's information even if they choose to share it themselves. Just because we are priviedged to be privy to private info on others does mean we should share it and refer to it in a [babblemail]

because the recipient of the babblemail might share it with even more people.

Matt I became concerned about privacy issues some time ago with regard to this site. I feel we need to be able to post serious stuff... as that seems to be one of the stated missions of the board. At the same time, we have to remember that everything posted here is archived on Google permanently. Some people have even incorporated our posts into other websites. Then there are security concerns... at one point someone stole my password and screen name. I've raised this issue before and did not get any substantive answers or resolution, but it's an important concern and I'm glad that you brought it up.

warm regards, Jake.
