Does the venerable (venereal?) Bob ever have ANY comment to make on how rude he is on his own site?
Apparently he's well trained in politeness IRL.
But here, any vestige of manners has completely eluded him apparently?
Ignoring an entire community that he is responsible for governing strikes me as rude.
That may only be my opnion, but I think it is not.
I am greatly concerned about some of bobs singleminded tunnelvision descicions. Eg regarding deleting harmful posts.
About excessive blocks....
I am wondering,
this utter disregard for babblers,
Its so cold,
uncaring,
disturbing to me.
Sometimes I visualize him watching us squirm,
and he just watches,
emotionlessly,
cold,
uncaring,
assessing,
calculating,
labelling.
While he hides like a spider in his web.
This web of kindness at babble.
Woven by good hearts of babblers,
overseen by an evil spider,
who watches,
cold,
uncaring.
:-(

With all due respect to others' feelings, I personally do not see a major difference in the site overall despite Dr. Bob's lack of appearances. Sure, the Admin board is different because his absence seems more noticeable here, but the rest of the site seems relatively normal. Of course, the burden falling on the deputies has likely increased, but I don't see how the average Babbler's experience has changed much.
I keep hearing about how "scary" this site is becoming because Dr. Bob is not around. I may be missing something, but I don't see the connection. If there are serious problems, processes are still in place to address them, regardless of Dr. Bob's level of participation. And I think the deputies are doing a damn good job making sure this place doesn't get scary.
I suspect that I may view things differently because I did not develop what I perceive as a "personal" relationship or regular interaction with Dr. Bob. I have always viewed him as the owner of the site and occasional enforcer of the rules, not as a confidante or web friend. I come to Babble because of the other posters here, not to liase with Dr. Bob. Consequently, my view of Babble may be different than others'.

My concern is that the deputies have very little actual power to DO anything other than the most basic things.
When we were hacked it took quite some time to find bob to get it solved.
There are blocks that have not been addressed.
The hacking hasn't really been adressed.
I feel its sorta like a business where the owner is never there, and while the manager can do a certain amount, they can do only so much, and over time the business gets a little sloppy, not because of bad management, but because there are things only the owner can do, descisions only the owner can make. Things you can't expect a manager to handle(ESP a VOLUNTEER manager).
Plus customers, suppliers etc would like to occasionally interact w/the owner so as to know who this person is whose establishment they are patronizing.
Don't forget that Bob has all the power here, and for those of us who have been powerless in our lives, its rather scarey to have no sense of the one who potentially has the power to take some their supports away.
He like a bad mommy who say she gonna take care of her family but she don't, she don't care. Bad things happen but nobody cares. Bad mom. Bob put hisself in such a position making a MENTAL health website. I am f*cking mental.
That is why I pull away.
That is why I am afraid.
I want to know who he is.
I want to know he is caring for this home.
Or whether its just crumbling and gonna allasudden dissappear and just be GONE one day.
Guess I just a needy little sh*t is all.
Needy little f*ck head.
Mebbe this is just a bad place for me I guess.
Wrong place.
Need to be stronger to be here.
This is a place for strong people. Not wimps.
Stupid me should be gone.
Sorry I stupid.
There are no excuses.
Gotta go.

i have needed assistance from Bob and my personal view is different. Those who have not needed any communication or interaction are fortunate. There is communication between babblers who do need assistance, so some people are more aware of issues than others might be. In the event of an issue arising even the response time is dismaying. If Bob is busy then he should have someone with the same amount of power over the site watch it for him.
i think the deputies do a damn good job too. But they do not make policies nor can they change them or consider exceptions to those policies. Only Bob can do that, and if he is otherwise occupied then there should be someone who can deal with issues as they arise.
i don't personally want any sort of relationship with Bob (!) But i would like to see better interactions when the need occurs.

muffy you are not stupid. You're not a wimp either and we BOTH know it. You're mad and it is as valid as anything else. Remember, not everyone has the same experiences, so not everyone sees things the same way...not everyone has the same needs.
you know where i am baby doll...

I don't mean to imply that my experience or view is any more valid than anyone elses. I just don't see much of a change in the everyday experience around here, except for a hacking that was not Dr. Bob's fault and which he addressed.

I wish you didn't put yourself down. I think it's perfectly natural to feel the site is unsafe. I personally don't, but that's just because I never cared too much about Dr. Bob being here or not to begin with. I come here for the people like YOU, muffly.
Take care and come back and post if you feel safer. I'll miss you.
