Thanks for updating the FAQ about PDP's when you made the change to the rules. Is there any way that new or revised portions of the FAQ could be somehow highlighted? Maybe in a different color or font, so that we can easily spot that there's a change. For anyone who's browsed the FAQ before, any changes sort of blend in with the text and could easily be missed.

That's something I've wondered about, too. Like Word lets you "track changes". I guess it could be done. I'm not sure what the best way to highlight would be, though, color and font might not be apparent to people who are visually impaired...

But sometimes people who are visually impaired have web pages read to them, how would that "sound"?

Dr. Bob,
Suggestion--and I hate myself for saying this. Once you have signed up, most people never read the FAQ and start up again. If you make a MAJOR change in the rules, how about setting up an automatic "test" you have to read through in order to post again?

It's something I've considered. What if the change were just announced prominently?

Where would you post it? How large a type would you use? I miss a lot of what is going on on these boards.

At the top of each board? Usually announcements there I just put in a box, not in large type.
BTW, re:

Apparently one way is to mark the beginnings and ends of sections to be highlighted with text, for example, "beginning of change" and "end of change".

I don't always look at the top of the boards.

Me neither. I scroll quickly past all the top stuff. That's why at least for me, I would most readily see a change if it were a different color or font. Maybe in red or blue or something. Or bold or italics, though I don't know that I'd easily spot italics.
I suppose that a change in a section could be highlighted in some way, and then the next time anything in that section is changed, the new area could be "cleared" or returned to the usual font, and then the newest revision could be highlighted. And then to combine ideas here, though I realize it makes more work, a notice and link could be provided at the top or perhaps bottom of pages that says something like, "Please see revisions to site guidelines in the FAQ" or something like that.
Also, I think the begin change/end change thing would be great for the visually impaired, but I probably wouldn't spot it unless I were reading through everything and came upon it.

Right, that's what I was thinking.

I think a periodic quiz would not be a bad idea. Not that I WANT to do it. I just think it would be the best way to insure someone is informed of change. But anything more than 2-3 times a year is way too much!

Why this obsession w/visually impaired???
My Da is visually impaired, but he has a program on his computer the makes the print larger.
The use of begin and end change would be for the computer generated voice program that reads text aloud.
I can't remember whether the voice indicates italics or bold print, it may well do so.
If noone here knows, then I could ask my Da.
Just not sure why the obession w/the impaired unless you know there's impaired person in which case why don't you ASK them????
Or ask at the nearest(in Canada) CNIB place?
S'all.

Muffy,
When you join this site you have to answer a series of questions to show you understand how the site works and what the rules are. I was just suggesting that if they make important rule changes, then it would be a good idea to re-test or quiz people on them before they are allowed to post. That's all.
