Because it's a new rule
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/admin/20060802/msgs/674584.html
Any particular post you want to bring to admin attention should be sent directly to Dr. Bob or the deputies through email or babblemail.
I think Dr. Bob is working on a button to make that easier.

Do I understand we are not to post URL's publically on the board? Is this just for the Adm. board or are we not to make reference, by posting the actual URL's, in other types of discussions on the other boards as well?
I'm just trying to understand and babble as to the expectations. I also agree a list of "rules" are needed badly, badly, badly. Some of us are infrequent vistors to Adm. and it's difficult to keep up if you don't visit more frequently.

Just for asking for administrative review.
It's fine to link for other reasons.

I wonder...how would the board feel about having an easy to find "rules" link, say either on the front page or on top of the Administration board, which provides a "cheat sheet" of ONLY the current rules, announcements, as well as an abbreviated "civility checklist" (with link to the existing more detailed explanations)--all free of editorial commentary. That way, if it was a separate special section, anyone could easily find it and check on something that seems unclear, without spending lots of time, and there would be less excuse not to know the latest. Perhaps the link could have a note on the outside saying, "Last update (date)", and could be alterable only by deputies and Dr. Bob so as to not become cluttered or confusing. (The date could be a signal to anyone that it's time to look and see what the development or change is.)For example- "what's going on with that 3 post rule anyway?"
Let me glance at the checklist.
"what's the story about including urls?"
Let me glance at the checklist before I post.
"Is there anything new that I should know today?"
Let me take 2 seconds to glance at the checklist/bulletin board to see if there is any update indicated. The Admin board is nice, and useful for discussion, but it can get confusing to keep up here accurately because one often needs to spend condsiderable time sifting through the developments and reasonings in long posts to try to deduce what is going on and what has been decided. Informative, but not always efficient or easy to understand.
Just an idea.

I fear that it could take a very very long time for something like that to be implemented, though. But it would be ever so helpful, I think.

There's no rule that states you cannot post URL's or links in your posts. There IS a new policy about asking if a post is civil. You used to be able to make a post here with the URL and your question. Now Dr. Bob would like inquiries of that type to be emailed to him and/or the deputies. I believe that's where the confusion about posting URL's stems from.
You can still post links in posts. Of course as usual, those links must not link to uncivil material. That hasn't changed.
Hope this helps.

Thanks!Yes, I am aware that realistically and unfortunately it would be a big project for whoever ending up tackeling it. But hopefully one day it might happen? Sure could end up cutting out many confusions, excuses and rule infractions...hopefully prevent some hurt feelings and shocks, and perhaps even help us from hashing out the some of the same issues about what the rules are and what consitutes Board civility repeatedly- something I myself am guilty of, largely because of my initial ignorance of what the realities of a board such as psychobabble really require.
I do humbley hunch that I wasn't the only new poster in the history of babble who had good intentions- but was so excited about it all that I just jumped on in before studying the rules and developments here on Admin and in the Tips carefully...and I reckon now that constant rule clarification must eat up a lot of deputies' and Dr. Bob's time-not to mention posters' time.
Thanks again,
Laima

Oh dear. This is an example of how I get confused, too- so we CAN include urls in our posts as long as they are not to drug sales; and does this then mean we should email Dr. Bob and/or deputies via babblemail if we are offended or concerned about a post? Or is there a special "reflector" email address somewhere that I don't know about because I haven''t read everything on this entire long page? I'm not trying to be difficult- I am sincere.Appreciatively,
Laima
ps- I actually don't know if "refelector email" is a real term or one my office came up with- by that I mean an email address, one address, that a group of people- in this hypothetical case the deputies and Dr. Bob- could all get in to.

>There is not currently such an email address for Dr Bob and the Deputies -- and wouldn't that be a good name for a rock band? -- but that's an awfully good idea! Good suggestion, and I think I'll email Dr Bob with it.
For now, though, there's a link to Dr Bob's email at the bottom of the board, and the deputies' email addresses are listed in the FAQ. Not as simple as a "Reflector Email," but workable for now.
I've never heard that term, by the way...
