I'm open to a better option, but I haven't had time to research it. Does anyone know of something more reliable?

I'll see if I can think of anything else.

I haven't, but I'd be willing to give it a go. I was wondering what other chat resources were out there.

I have almost every form of chat client you can think of. The problem is, not everyone uses the same one (hence, why I have so many). I have some friends who only use MSN and others who only use AIM or Yahoo. And there is no way to do a universal Dr. Bob chatroom with any of those. Everyone that wanted to use it would have to sign up with what ever chat client was chosen.
It's still MUCH better to have a dedicated chat channel on this site. It's just a matter of what Dr. Bob chooses to use and how complicated he wants to make it for himself.
I wonder if he's even looking or if other things regarding the site are a little more important right now.

okay so it let me in once.
when i tried to type something
(to practice chatting by myself lol)
it booted me out. happened a couple of times.
is that normal for chat?
(ie is that what everyone has been complaining about)
tried to get in today and yesterday too...
and it wouldn't load.
some problem with java 'null pointer exception' or some crap
or 'applets won't load' or some crap
is that what everyone has been complaining about, or am i still having trouble with my computer?

Do you mean in Open? If so, yes...getting booted out repeatedly is the main problem. On my computer, it also periodically freezes my screen.
Of course, still no response from Yahoo from my query.

I know you have a lot of other things on your list to do. Thanks for setting it up!

On the first day Dinah and I had a chat with Dr. Bob! Can you believe it? I had a chat with Dr. Bob!!!
It was intimate. ;-)
I find the chat annoyingly slow. At times it takes well over a minute to send text through. It hasn't booted anyone out though, so that's certainly an improvement.
Ah, Bob, I chatted with Bob. :-) I'll never forget it. I'd say it was almost better than meeting him in person.

Why doesn't someone set up a certain day of the week and pick like two 2-3 hour blocks of time to have official chats. It is really hard randomly checking chat to see if anyone is there.

What if the top of each babble frame/page had a section listing the number of people in the dark chat room? everytime you refresh it, the number of chatters is posted, maybe next to the (regrettably absent) picture of Dr. Bob himself?

regularly scheduled chats are nice. I just had a lovely conversation with several nice people that went on over an hour :)
Hope to meet you too sometime ;)

No, that's just the way it came. Would a calming vanilla cream color be better? :-)

How about not at the top, but where the Open link is now? Let me give it a try here...

Thanks for doing that, btw. I think it will make it more likely that people will go to chat, if they see someone else is there.
Also, I don't know if anything can be done about this, but I just got disconnected from the internet while in chat (stupid dial up dark ages connection!). I tried to get back into chat, but it said gg was already logged in. I couldn't get through anywhere to log out and re-log in.

Ah, I probably didn't close the window. When I get disconnected, I usually leave everything as is, and then when I reconnect, I just refresh. If it happens again, I'll try closing the window.
Thanks,gg
