It's my understanding that all posts on Babble are archived on Google. I was surprised one day when I was researching a medication on Google.com and one my old posts on dr-bob.org popped up. My question is: is there a way to post on this site without it going into the Google archives?
Tonight on PBS Newshour there was a discussion about Google that was worrisome. Two guests were interviewed who had written books about the company. They said that all searches on Google, all posts, all gmails, are permanently saved in Google's database, and are linked back to the user's internet address. They use it for marketing purposes.
I discovered this phenomenon by accident after I had been doing some searches related to credit counseling. All of a sudden, there were advertisements coming up on the sidebar for bankruptcy attorneys in my town.
The reporters on PBS stated that under the Patriot Act the government could, it chose to, require Google to provide a complete record of an individual's internet activities. They also suggested that attorneys may be able to subponae these records as part of a civil or criminal lawsuit. The example given was a divorce case.
I'm not sure if I want my postings on dr-bob.org to be available forever for public scrutiny on Google or other search engines. Is there a way to "opt-out" to that my postings stay on this site and don't go out all over the internet?
warm regards ~Jake

As long as this is a public board, the google bots will be picking up your posts. That is why I am always careful about what I say and what I post online.
Sadly, most people don't think about things like what you just posted. Most people don't realize the vast amounts of personal information that the internet holds on them. It's always interesting to do a google search on yourself not only using keywords, but also your telephone number and address.

I have found three messages I wrote on the internet. One from Dr. Bob and one from Braintalk Communities, and the other on Theophylline for loss of taste and smell. Oh and also one on losing it due to Biaxin. Google Biaxin and see if you find my post. Or the one from last March on Melaleuca[don't use it anymore] Fondly, Phillipa

that's the problem. these snippets of posts dont tell the whole story. I have usenet posts back to 1997. Google bought them out, now its called "groups", buy they are still there.

it concerns me too...
dr-bob has been talking about introducing small boards for a while now...
i asked:
please
please
please
can they only be viewable to members
and not be linked to google?i guess publicity (hence new members) on the one hand...
privacy on the other...i can understand why for informational purposes it is handy to have that google link...
a lot of people find the site via google...
i found this site not too hard
searching for an online chat board
i found psych central only after people mentioning its name
and me searching for it specifically
there are more posters here than there
the linking to google probably has a great deal to do with that
but when i think of some of the things i've said online
well...
if anyone irl found that...
and didn't have to be civil in what they said in response to that...i think i'd die of shame

If someone from the Governmet is reading this:
1) I really don't have a blow-up doll. I was just kidding.
2) My man-boobs aren't really that bad. If I suck in a lot of air they pretty much go away.
3) I didn't mean what I said about the administration. I think he's going a swell job with international relations and all.
4) I do have a psychiatric diagnosis. But I'm really not all that dangerous.
Thank you.

They dont even have to be small boards. It could even be just one big board, or a few specific boards that all posters have access too if registered. Requirement could be that they have to take another quiz and register but there should be a list of members who are signed up so that users always know whos watching.
