Supportive Environment

Posted by verne on November 4, 2005, at 2:06:56

When I ran out of medication questions I tried to participate on the other boards and discovered them to be less helpful.

I think the other boards stray from the original purpose of being supportive and tend to be more argumentive, entertaining, or both. Some may find arguments amusing so the line between them is blurred.

But debate and entertainment aren't all that supportive and leave me feeling worse off than before. I admit I'm a chronic comedian and guilty myself of trying to amuse others rather than help them. But a steady diet of it just isn't fulfilling.

All the arguing, wit swaps, and pi**ing contests just leaves me feeling empty later - in the real world.

I could also do without the distinct anti-American rhetoric that's curiously tolerated. How is that civil? They will claim, it's not Americans they hate but rather the "system", the government or our "policies". I'm not buying it -they hate "us".

I don't feel welcome in this hostile envirnoment. I'm done until I have another medication issue or my block is over - whichever comes first.

No.
I don't hate you Verne.
I don't hate any americans.
I don't even hate the system.
Though I suppose I have issues with it.
But it isn't anything personal to the 'american system' either.
You should hear me rant about the 'community mental health system' in New Zealand.
Really.

Well Verne, yeah, I'm antiamerican, or antisomething or other. There is an atmosphere of crisis or something. Everythings inflamed, I think lots of people are affected, not just here. I'm sorry you feel like you do because I think you're a champ, I can't think of a better way of putting it though I don't expect you to like it. I feel exhausted by the whole business.

the psyche page is the one I visit beause everyone there is very kind, with rare exception. Verne, honestly, on that page, I have yet to notice any contests of any kind. Come over there.

I'm sorry you feel hated. Maybe try being more selective regarding which boards and whose posts you read?
