Okay, clearly I have, like others perhaps, too much time on my hands. Or I'm seriously procrastinating that (insert word that triggers me here) I need to be working on.
But for your reading er, pleasure (warning empty your bladder first...it's a long one!)

Seems the familiar pattern I referred to in an earlier thread appears to go back way longer than I realized. I found this thread when googling some key words/phrases from recent posts. Seems Babble has dealt with multiple screen names from posters (among other issues) for a long time. Wow, I feel like a newbie!
And please note, it was freaky for me to see "gg" as a poster in the thread I linked above. I can assure you, I was not around then.
Weird coinkydinks, eh? I sort of hate to give this "blast from the past" new life, but I wondered what y'all think about it.
Sure glad you implemented the registration process, Dr. Bob. I can see why you did. In browsing the archives, I can also see why the civility guidelines developed in the first place.
Regards,
a post-registration gg

I didn't get back to as far as the thread you got! but I found some old threads like that a while ago when looking at some key words that come up again and also realised why the civil rules must hast have come into to play, things were alot different back then they are now with the rules I noticed too, but some of the posting I guess is somewhat similar, civil and uncivil....

Very interesting!
This kind of belongs in psychology but I thought it may be of some use here (the parts on What Is Projection? & Extreme Transference and of course the other parts too.)

Yes! I know the feeling lol

Interesting links to threads and resources. I'd add projective identification to the list on that link. It's a whopper when it rears its not so lovely head and knocks you down with its whipping tail. It's good when you can identify it, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep going, self intact.
It occurs to me that I'm talking about a pattern on Babble I've noticed before, but other folks may not, since you would have to be in the right time at the right place, so to speak. Oh well. Thanks for validating my thoughts. :)
Take care,
gg

Hey GG, I dunno if you have the energy for it, but tell me about projective identification. My T had lots of Melanie Klein books, some of which I........well, Melanie Klein's not that easy, but she's big on projective identification, and I never got the hang of it. OTOH I thought I grasped Fritz Pearls' description of projection.

Hello gg,
boB, boBB and Cptn. boB! were really quite interesting back in 2000. I read up alittle about projective identification last night, typed it into the search feature here and afew results down I got a post (it linked the 2 words together separately I think) with a discussion with boB!/Cptn. boB..who described herself/himself as..
"Me, I am a guerilla student, and an amature scientist, and hopefully a field medic in the war on drugs. For whatever that is worth."
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20000401/msgs/29539.html
Then boB says later down in the page of that April 2000 archive (I found it interesting so I clicked lol)
"Perhaps I can help you find some more perspective on this situation. I am a reporter.
Before I was a journalist, I was persistently confrontational with retail institutions, and with law enforcement agencies. I do not consider my behavior symptomatic of disease, I consider it appropriate response in a troubled society. If there is anything that separated me from a user of prescribed psychotropics is that I was fortunate to learn effective verbal coping strategies.
Take it from an old guerilla psychological warrior. Hit hard and back off. Don't be drawn into a front-on conflict unless you are assured of victory or the rewards of battle are worth your personal loss. Don't be thwarted by a little bit of pain and live to fight another day."

Fascinating reading (all of the messages and threads)
In an unrelated sense, I was reading the newspaper the other day and when reading the newspaper article I found myself thinking....if this 'story' was written on babble, it would definitely be considered uncivil!

Hi Declan,
I don't know much about psychology, but I read this about Projective Identification yesterday...
I think maybe there is probably easier ways to sum it up tough in a nutshell, but I found it an interesting read..

My apologies for bringing up 'babble history' although I do find it interesting (educational) what lies in the archives here about various treatments/medications and the way the boards and posters have evolved.
Warm regards

Thanks Nick, I've just read it, and am reminded that I've not read that sort of stuff for ages. I did read "Envy and Gratitude" (Melanie Klein) once. I feel like quoting Einstein's thing about any idea should be able to be put so that a 12 yo can understand it, if not it's fraudulant. It's very familiar, even if I don't have the intellectual energy to grasp it in the way one grasps things one properly understands, which are very simple things these days.

Hi,
At the risk of appearing narcissistic...I posted something about projective identification in the past. I found this article to be a little more readable. And I had forgotten I posted this in response to some admin threads that were more heated.http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/admin/20050716/msgs/529665.html

The syntax, the point of view, the multiple names.
Please, I *hope* the same person hasn't been doing this for that long!
I barely have the attention span to get through a week, much less follow the same thing for five years.
But the similarities are just eerie.
This is the end of the thread.
