Dr. Hsiung,
I am requesting that you write a determination as to if the following is acceptable or not in relation to the guidlines of the forum.
The poster writes,[...you are playing with fire...].

I think I see what you mean, but given the context, I did consider it acceptable.

Please accept my most sincere apology for writing a questionable post. It has always been my desire to help and support. I try to be careful in my word choices. Indeed, there are many times I do not post at all in fear that I might say something inappropriate, even when I have something significant to say.

I am not mentally sharp enough to pass this kind of scrutiny or argue points of correctness. This is due to excess stress in my life and my struggle with depression. I will cease to post or read until I am less fragile. I cannot handle the pressure of trying to create a perfect post.

Again please accept my apology.

Midnight bBlue,
You wrote,[...there are many times I do not post...out of fear...I am not ...enough to pass the scrutiny ...I can not handle the pressure of trying to create the perfect post...].
It is for you, and people like yourself that a part of my posting is dedicated to here.
I hope that others can see that. I hope that there are more posters like you that have the courage to write what you have writtten here.
It is not my intention to use your post for anything other than to have Dr. Hsiung write adetermination as to his thinking in regards to his own standards of acceptability. Are you say ing that in your opinion that any of those standards could have the potential be:
A. too far-reaching
B. unreasonable
C. arbitrary
D. not condusive to good mental health
E. unsupportive
F. against the ability that the population of the community could achieve
G. allow the moderator to use the members as an outlet for his own agenda

I hear what you are saying Lou, and I understand your reasons.

But can you hear what others are saying and can you understand their reasons when they say that they feel like they have fallen short of the mark when you haul their posts over here and request determination on them.

I know you don't intend this to happen,
But you do get that it is an unintended consequence of your doing that - right?

I mean actions do have consequences. And a consequence of asking for frequent civility determinations to be made on peoples posts is that people are going to take that personally. Even if you don't intend it that way it is hard to not take it personally. I think people have requested civility determinations on your posts too. And it is hard to not take it personally.

And then one starts to question oneself and worry about expressing oneself.

I'm not sure that asking for civility determinations is making the rules any clearer either for you or for anyone else. If they were helping clarify then I would expect that they would become more accurate and be requested less often. But that doesn't seem to be happening.

I don't know...

It is hard to figure how much to change what one does because of the way in which people respond to it.

I'm struggling with that myself right now, so maybe this is more about me than about you. If so then I guess thats ok, just take what you want from it.

I guess I think that you have to realise that certain actions will lead to certain results. This is something that I am thinking about with respect to me too. And so one has to think about whether the results are worth it.

What is one hoping to achieve by what one is doing?
Is there another way to do it that won't have unplesant consequences?
Is it worth is?

I don't know...

Because...

If it starts to interfeare with people feeling free to give and recieve support then it is starting to interfeare with one of the purposes of the boards.

And then...
IMO it should be stopped.
