Nineteen of them! Idea for a new one.

Posted by emme on February 16, 2005, at 22:55:55

Gee, I blink and there's a few more of them. Scary. The boards are multiplying like bunnies. Here's an idea for number 19: a board where profanity is encouraged. Not flaming each other. Just permitting the use of curse words. Maybe a little raunchy humor while we're at it. It would probably save a lot of blocks. :)

But then, that title would mean different things to different folks.

Interesting idea though. Although with the asterisking, it's almost like that now, in that you really can't hide what the word is. I *suppose* maybe it takes some sting out of them if one is sensitive to the words, maybe.

It lets people quickly scan the post for the number of asterisks. People can choose to avoid posts with lots of asterisks (or even a single one if they choose) and eventually maybe even posters who have a tendency to use lots of asterisks.

I wonder if anyone actually does that???

There used to be a board here for parents except it was called "Children's Babble" (I found this treasure in the archives) A poster was looking for it, and was told it had been closed. Another poster, Mr. Bean I think, said "No, it's still here they just renamed it the admin board"

I really think 'politics' should be renamed 'current events.' Too many people think it's about political parties, politicians and elections only.

I agree with you. Makes more sense and may increase activity on the board. Some people may avoid that particular board because they don't want to get involved in potentially divisive political discussions. There is more going on in the world than just politics. Good suggestion.

I absolutely agree. At the time of the suggestion for this board, politics WERE the most current events. But now there is more going on.

What a great idea, emme. Problem is, I'm afraid all posts would be redirected to Psycho-Babble Psychology because they would be considered cathartic scream therapy.

BTW, why is it called redirect, when the post has never been directed to another board before?

IMO, one advantage of having it this way is that people who aren't interested in potentially divisive political discussions can avoid them -- and those who *are* interested in them can divise fewer others.

Other current events can always be discussed at Social?

You might want to add the links to the new boards on your homepage too.

Sure I suppose so. I guess I just view the Social board - based on my understanding of the description of it - "general discussion and support, including "just" being social - as being a place where posters can go to discuss things going on their own lives, personal interests, life experiences and issues of a general nature. The human nature, and everything that goes with that, board. That would be the distinction I would see FWIW.

Sorry about the extra click, but I'd like to redirect follow-ups regarding justice to Psycho-Babble Politics. Here's a link:

Couldn't personal interests and issues of a general nature include current events?

I thought whom to blame and what would be just could be considered political issues?

"I thought whom to blame and what would be just could be considered political issues?"

I can see where blame and politics go together, but justice?
