Part of me thinks they are fine and can be helpful to show us anyone new who may need help and attention sooner.. BUT part of me wonders if they may feel singled out for this mark. Maybe it is silly but I am wondering if they feel maybe like they stand out kind of akin to the Jewish people in Nazi Germany who had to wear those numbers. Maybe I am too sensitive I don't know.

If there is had to be an analogy, mine would be attending a party where everyone knows each other, and you are the only one with a name tag. Maybe a little embarrassing, but I think it's a handy concept idea.
Additionally, when new people pop up and make outlandish statements or are just slightly uncivil, we'll know they are knew, and don't know the rules yet. emmy

I like it how there is a clear statement of intention at the top of the page. It makes it clear that the rationale for it is so that it makes it easier for the rest of us to welcome them. If it leads to them getting more responses to their posts then I think thats a nice thing. Maybe slightly embarrasing for the first newbie, but I guess we could always ask them after a while how they felt about it.
Can you change the colour of the 'new' indicators? (ok, silly question).
Can mine be black?

Oh, I wasn't intending to be disagreeable - was just trying to mollify the analogy a bit.
I like the green thingies...and if I ever see one (I'm not yet sure they exist or are they a figment of the good doctor's imagination?), I'll ask the newbie if it means the same thing as those green M&M's.
