Lou's request to Dr. Hsiung-fth-ptycldy

Posted by Lou Pilder on November 19, 2004, at 10:43:42

Dr. Hsiung,
I am requesting that you write a determination as to the acceptability or not of the following in relation to the guidlines of the faith forum.
Lou Pilder

I don't find anything remotely uncivil there, Lou. Although she isn't using the "i feel" words, it is obvious to me from the context that she is giving her opinion, and not putting down others' opinions.

I have addressed the same thing in different words above:

AM,
You wrote,[...I don't find anything...uncivil...I addressed the same thing in different words...].
I am awaiting Dr. Hsiung's determination as to the acceptability or not {in relation to the guidlines of the faith forum}. I just saw your post that you cited.
Lou

I am extremely insulted right now. I don't see that I posted anything questionable, and don't see why Dr Bob's determination is required at all.

Lou, this quest you have for determinations irritates me. The people who post here post for support and because they have questions, they don't need to feel more pressure or more doubtful about what they post because you are going to send it to Dr Bob for scrutiny.
I'm angry that Partly Cloudy is frustrated and felt she shouldn't post on the faith board because her very civil ideas were drawn attention to Dr. Bob by you, only from what I saw because they are not identical to your own.
It bothers me that that you question numerous posts because they may be "uncivil" or "offensive" or "racist" and therefore hurtful. At the same time people like P.C have said they've been hurt and frustrated by the fact that you do this. Are their hurt feelings not important?

What do you think would happen if you used your analyses to find the good in what people do, the mutual support and kindness?
I think you might find more of heaven here on earth than you expected.

Gabbix2,
You wrote,[...Lou,...her...ideas were drawn attention to Dr. Bob...from what I saw {because they are not identicle to your own}...].
What did you see to make you write {because they are not identicle to your own}? I do not believe that I wrote any thing about her ideas being not like mine.
You wrote,[...you question...posts because they may be "uncivil" ...]. I am requesting that Dr. Hsiung make a determination as to the acceptability or not in relation to the guidlines of the forum. He will determine if something is 'uncivil".
Guidlines for the faith forum are differnt from the other forums. Agnosticism and atheism are considered to not support faith in God . This guidline is not in the FAQ under "civility". Dr. Hsiung has asked others to {..please be supportive if ...faith..]
You wrote,[...people like...are hurt by ....that you do this (request determinations)...are their hurt feelings not important?..].
It is not my intention to hurt anyone's feelings. In these requests, Dr. Hsiung has attended to some of them by asking the poster to rephrase what they wrote. SOme have been determined as acceptable, some uncivil, and some not determimed. I do not remember seeing any of my requests resulting in an eviction from thr forum and I have requested that things on the administrative board be exempted from any type of eviction because of the nature of the administrative board inheritly being what it is , people in a dispute of some sort. And disputes can be worked out. Reasonable people have disputes and the administrative board has been the place for these to be worked out. I think that it has been working well and there are others that post here with "is this post civil?" which is in effect something like my requests for a determination.
If Dr. Hsiung is writing that he accepts posters here requesting a determination, then I feel that it is acceptable to do so.
Lou

You're right, I shouldn't have made that assumption.
And I probably shouldn't post on the faith board because the restrictions aren't something I agree with anyway. And it looks like Dr. Bob sees things the way you do.

FWIW, the way I read partly cloudy's post is that for her, it is the absolutism of many religions that makes her feel she is more comfortable not joining any particular religion but drawing insights from different religions and living a more individual spiritual life. Further, my understanding of her post is that she is uncomfortable with dogmatism and absolutism expressed by some members of each of these religions saying that theirs is superior to the others.

this is just how I understand her post.

I think you articulated that very well. Thanks!
