Lou's request to Dr. Hsiung-political posts

Posted by Lou Pilder on September 18, 2004, at 23:14:54

Dr. Hsiung,
I am requesting that you make a determination as to the appropriatness of political posts here. The one in question has the potential to arrouse anti-Bush feelings and also has the potential to violate the spirit , if not the letter , of the forum's purpose.
Is it supportive to place the leaders of any country in a focus such as the one in the post in question? Is there a benifit that this board could receive by a discussion of this nature? If so, could you clarify such and then I could have the opportunity to respond accordingly?

Dr. Hsiung,
Let us reason together. We both agree that the board is for support. I am asking you, is the following supportive?
A.(subject line) {Paging {Dubya} Bush??}
B.[...the masses {cannot see through this}...]
C. "reelected"
D.[...horrific policies...]
E. [...when social security finally fails...]
F.[...human being...with so little going for him ever had so many breaks?...].
G. [...born under lucky star with ...silver spoon in his...].
H.[...be working selling used cars for a living...].
I. Others possibly missed
Where is there a line drawn here that permits this type of post? Does it not put down used car salepeople? Is it not accusitive?
Are the masses all unable to see what the poster writes , or is the poster's statement in (B) putting down the masses?
Would this be permissible here? [...if Bush would not have been born into the Bush family, he'd probably be working as a teacher...]

Dr. Hsiung,
Hear is my understanding of how the post in question is not supportive.
I do not feel that any political discussion can be supportive if only one side of an issue is stated. That type of discussion has the potential to become accusitive of the person that is being written about. It also has the potential to be an attempt to advocate the election of the other person by defaming the person being posted about. This then has the potential to make the board a venue for getting votes for the other party. But isn't it a poor mental health practice to slam a person?
I am suggesting that posts of that nature not be allowed, just as other types of posts are not allowed on a mental health forum. Could there be posts that slam religious leaders?

Dr. Hsiung,
Another part of my reasoning that makes me believe that those type of posts are unsupportive is that they have the potential to stoke unnecessary resentment. What does it proffit a poster here to discuss topics that have the potential to arrouse resentment toward another, being a political person or any other person. Could one post,[...if Liza Minelli was not the daughter of Judy Garland, she'd probably be working as a nurse...]?
