someone seems to have my name

Posted by DaisyM on September 13, 2004, at 0:49:06

Well, really close to it. Daisy Elizabeth posted on psychological. This is bound to be confusing. Anyway we can ask her to change? I THINK I was here first. Otherwise I think we (I) need to warn people.

thanks
Daisy

I don't know, IMO, Elizabeth isn't so so close to M, but I guess it still could be confusing. Would you feel comfortable asking her? Or warning others?

How do I go about asking her? Just answer her post? I'll do that and if you want something different, just say so. The problem is that most people usually just catch the first name. The devil is in the details, as they say.

Thanks
Daisy

Since I started posting, over a year ago, I have seen some names pop up: karalyn, karaS, lynne da, god there have been so many similarities (some more striking than others) I can't remember them all. I wouldn't feel right asking karaS to change her name; she probably hasn't even heard of me, or wouldn't see a problem if she has, or figures she has as much right to be karaS.as I have to be kara lynne---which of course she does. But I agree that it does feel strange to have other such close resemblences pop up from time to time.

At this point there are so many that I think I need to change my handle---I just haven't gotten around to choosing one and going through the process. You may just want to be aware that even if Daisy Elizabeth agrees to change her name, Daisy Mae or Daisy Duke or Daisy Chain just may start posting the day after. It's the nature of the beast, some (no one here implicated) more predatory than others.

I thought your post was very nice, thanks for doing that,

I'm happy to change my name, but I can't figure out how. Do I just re-register?

That's the basic idea, see:

Thanks for being flexible,

Bob

For suggesting there might be a conflict unnecessarily. This is obviously an issue for me.

Your's was a peaceful, healthy transaction; having never had one, I didn't realize it was possible.

New Name!

Okay, I have a new name now. I'm now Emily Elizabeth. I like it. I agree that it is easiest to have different names.

Best,
EE

Hi there Kara. I really appreciated your post. It expressed what I had on my mind about the issue, though in a very articulate and supportive way: I was impressed.

And now I read your other post, and I am reminded of a post I made a while back on 'the trouble with...'. I said that the trouble with idealisation is that it tends to lead to disillusionment and devaluation. Though, of course, that is the trouble with me. The trouble with my experience. Sigh.

Thank you alexandra k.

For your support, it is much appreciated. It's hard to have your posts floating around the cosmos all naked and vulnerable--tends to send me back to my default setting of self doubt.

I'm glad to meet you (but you seem familiar, did we talk once on psychological?), and grateful you understood what I meant. Hopefully we can talk some more, when I come up with a new name to post under ;).

When I tried to sign up I went through about 6 different usernames trying to find one that wasn't taken. I tried alex, alex2, but I hate numbers and so I ended up with my name kind of by default (though I quite like it). I guess that means that I realised that there would be other posters with similar usernames though. What really rattles me is when there are people with my real name, or variations on it. I guess it is kind of nice to think that someone would choose that volontarily for themselves.

Today someone asked if it was safe to assume I was KaraS. Sigh.

It's strange, because I identify with my name; I feel like if I change it I should just become an entirely different person and not have to tell anyone. And no, I don't have MPD, not diagnosed, anywyay. :) :)
