Invariably in the past, religious discussions have ended up with two posters rolling in the grass trying to poke each others eyes out. So when the idea of a faith board surfaced, it was like faith board?
I think it should change to the Relationships Board. There, you could discuss your relationships with family, God, friends, lovers, etc.
A group I used to attend would have a lot of regular meetings but they also had a relationships meeting twice a week. They were crowded meetings with a lot of laughter and sadness but few people missed them.
Since the regular groups talked about relationships, you wouldn't think a relationships meeting wouldn't be necessary. But there was a different focus in the R meetings which made them unique.
There was much talk of relationship with God, yourself or your dealings with people in general.
I think it might broaden the appeal of the Faith Board without watering it down or changing the intended focus.
If a poster wants only to talk about their religion, that's fine. Still, there will have to be guidelines but maybe things will lighten up a bit. Maybe more will see that their issues are many times of a spiritual nature or can only be helped with spirituality as a foundation.
The religion board can't be perfect but the basic tenets of all religion boils down to treat others as you would like to be treated. When you haven't learned that, you're asking for controversy.
If people keep the focus on themselves it would be easier. Maybe a Christian could say that she holds the belief that the only way to salvation is through Jesus but it's clear that it's their belief, not their agenda.

I realize I really have no vote in the decision, but I do agree with Phil.
The Faith Board, as it is now, is very intimidating. If we have a relationships board, I would feel more comfortable both with discussions and with asking questions.
Unfortunately, I don't have a grasp on my religion, but would like to know more about what others believe. I also would like to know how it relates to their relationships they are dealing with now. How did faith affect past events? Are there other people with psychological problems struggling with faith? How has faith helped or hindered the healing process? Those kinds of wuestions, I would not post now, but have an interest in.
Anyway, please consider Phil's suggestion. If the Faith Board isn't going to be updated, maybe a Relationship Board could be added for those of us too intimidated to start anything that could snowball into a disaster on the Faith Board. Thank you in advance for at least thinking about it.

Miller,
Thank you for your administrative interest in the faith board. You wrote,[...How has faith helped or hindered the healing process...]. You also wrote, [the faith board, as it is now, is very intimidating.] Are you saying that it is the [adninistration of the board] that represents the intimidation to you, or the posters posts that represent intimidation to you, or both, or niether but some other? If you could clarify which one,or more, if there is one or more, that represents the intimidation to you, then I could have a better administrative idea about your administrative concern about the faith board and be better able to discuss this here.
Best regads,
Lou

Hmm, I do think it might make a nice addition. But wouldn't there be a lot of overlap with PSB? Phil, was that an issue with your group?

The difference in the relationship group was that that was supposed to be the agenda for the meeting.
In the R group, people would begin by saying,"My name is Mary and tonight I just needed to talk about my relationship with my children...She could have said, boss, car, husband, God, myself, my sick mother...
I don't think we ever discussed the relationship meeting affecting other meetings. It was unique.
Except for the introduction, if you were there, it may be hard to tell what kind of meeting it was. Could be an open meeting with everyone wanting to discuss relationships.
Thanks for asking.

One aspect of PBP that's been nice, IMO, is all the support focused on therapy relationships. Maybe this could be something similar, but address a variety of other relationships? Would anyone be interested?

I was going to say we already do that on Social. Well, other people do. I'm lousy at relationships, and hardly ever have any new ones to practice my skills.
But when you put in that nice bit about Psychology, and I totally agree with you by the way, I thought "Why not?". Just as Psychology now gets hits from Google that brings people in, rather than just wandering over from meds searches, perhaps a Relationship board could do the same thing eventually.
