Question on Post Form

Posted by Lonely on August 17, 2004, at 16:13:45

I noticed that (if I have this right) on the Post form for replying to someone else's message, that there is the option to check off "Message - no message, just post above subject."

That is certainly okay but I don't quite understand the purpose. It has happened with a post I made which again is fine but I'm wondering if I'm missing something? Is it just a way of saying "I've read your post and I support you or acknowledge your entry" or something like that? i.e., as best I can tell, a reader might just repost someone else's posting but with their own name showing they've read it (I guess)."

Just curious if anyone has a minute to explain.

Thanks!

I've seen it used when the subject line contains the response, and no other verbage is necessary. The (nm) tells the viewers not to bother clicking on it.

I'll show an example next.

Yes, it did and thanks for the explanation from you and Dr. Bob.

I guess that in a way, when I open up a response post I'm thinking there's some sort of words of wisdom there (maybe kind've like a real mini version of Christmas - in a way I'm getting something) so I guess I'm a little disappointed if there's no message!!! I guess it's just my own quirk but it is good also to be able to recognize the "something" in the message line too!

What a lovely way to think of posts...
