Hi, everyone,
I've been thinking about setting up a "favicon" for this site. But couldn't come up with anything so small (16 x 16 pixels). Would any of you like to suggest one? If so, feel free to email me, thanks!

whut iz a favicon?
Please do not tell me it is an icon for people who post the most.
If it is an icon any poster can choose, then I am all for it. But, I've been to sites where frequent posters are rated for quantity, and I don't think (for us mentally disarranged) it would really be that great. Somehow/someway it would be nice if quality entered the equation at some point.
Just a thought.

If you add, say www.target.com to your Favorites list, it displays a little red target icon your list. I think that's what he means. Emmy

Here are some suggestions:
- a pill bottle
- a Prozac
- a tiny Dr Bob face
- that line drawing of the freaking out person, with the crazy hair and the big wide-open mouth, often featured on office gizmos like coffee cups, with silly sayings about how stressed out they are.
- a calm Buddha
- a shining, smiling sun face.
- that little zoloft ad person who looks like a jelly bean. Use the 'after zoloft' one where it's smiling, not the 'before zoloft' where it has its own personal rain cloud.

I guess I was thinking of...avatars, is it? Where you can choose an icon to use by your own name, or get assigned one on some websites.
So...never mind.

I'm with it now.. yeah.. an icon for your favourites list.. ofcourse!
I like th eidea of a prozac style pill.. Pfizer might not like an *actual* proxac pill.. but the green and white capsule is pretty clear as to what it means!

Thanks for all the ideas, everyone, but I can't draw, so even better would be actual graphics... :-)
Bob
PS: Again, they're limited to 16 x 16...

Could you please help me understand? An icon for my favorites list? What favorites list? List of favorite sites?

In Internet Explorer, or Netscape (and other browsers!) you can save a list of your favourite websites.
If you're using Internet Explorer, there is a menu called "favourites".. When you're on a web page, you can choose the "add to favourites" option, and it will add it there, so you don't need to remember the address for the page.Next to the link, there is an icon.. this normally looks like the internet explorer icon, or netscape or what ever. But web site owners can design their own icon that would be shown there instead.
Though.. in my experience, these only work for about 2 days after I add the site to my favourites.. who knows why!!

Thanks! I've received one by email, too. Maybe I'll collect suggestions for a while and then take a poll? Also, I like the pill idea, but I'm still open to other options, too...

....hmmmmm... is there any kind of item or object from nature that is commonly known to represent hope? Like a certain flower, tree, gemstone, bird, etc.; maybe from mythology or fairy tales? (Ooops, tee hee, I didn't even mean to make a funny by appearing to link hope to fairy tales!) Anyway, you get the idea.
Or something bittersweet, like the line we walk between pain and hope? What's an herb known to be bittersweet? Or how about a vine-covered gate, like the gate to a peaceful and healing garden?
Or are we wanting there to be an identifiable association with meds, therapy, that kind of thing? If so, how about either that mug-and-crusher thing that pharmacists (of oldde, possibly) used to mix concoctions? That could represent not only meds, but the mixing and creating of solutions of all kinds, and even the mixing of people here!
Or -- how about a tiny psychiatrist's couch?? (Hey, if there's room on the couch, put a green dot for the Prozac on it, or a box of Kleenex, or a Band-Aide... we all know there are no *cures,* after all...)
How about a combination of the symbolic and the technical, like a candle -- representing light being shed, but the candle could be green and white like a Prozac?
This is fun! Hope I can control myself from posting weird ideas all weekend! :- D

Thanks, Nikki. I actually did have my own "ahhh" experience after I posted my question.
As for the favicons disappearing, that's happened to me, too, and I think it is when my cookies are erased.

Yup. They are stored in the same place as cookies. Look for files called favicon.ico. I take them out routinely along with the cookies as more garbage on my computer that I don't need but that's really an empty gesture since they just get reloaded again. Does anyone know how to prevent them from being loaded in the first place? (icons, not cookies)

Well, I *never* delete my cookies.. way too annoying having to collect them all again!! *lol*
Mine just happens randomly after 2 days or so.. I found the problem on the microsoft website and its a known problem (along with so many other things, but as MS dont let you delete IE, I can't load an older vrsion without a hard load of it, and for some reason it doesn't want to do that!).. lets hope that a service pack one day will fix this!!
