Yeah, what's up with that? I have a Mac, and can't find any software for pop-up ad blocking... Is ad-blocking only available for Windows machines? Anybody got any ideas? I'd appreciate it if you do...Must say, though, that the pop-ups seem to have begun just yesterday, and I emailed Jay to ask him what the deal was...
Thanks,
Wendy

I use Adaware for getting rid of spyware.. I don;t use a pop up blocker as they then block certain pop up type things I want to keep!! *l* I just close any pop ups as soon as they appear.
Its the fact it tries to load spyware that *really* annoys me.. I will never return to a site that does that...
This is the url for Ad-aware.. maybe they will be able to help you find a Mac one.

--------------------------Nikki,
Thanks for the heads-up! I want to check and see if the spyware loaded on my PC. Do you know the name of the progam(s) and/or other information and search procedures I can use to find it and destroy it?

Nikki,
Thank you for that link! I will check it out. I am assuming that spyware is a bad thing, but don't know much about it. What does it do, from your understanding?
thanks again,
W.

I use ad-ware...

I managed to get a virus a few weeks ago, so did a full clean out, including a spyware check.. was shocked by how much I had.. so I set my security settings to high, so nothing can be downloaded with out me clicking yes.. I still seem to be getting infected with Gator again though.. so I am very careful about where I go.. even though Gator is fairly safe.

Basically, spyware is software that downloads itself from the internet, to spy on your internet activity. As a rule most of them are fairly safe in that they just record what websites you visit, and send them back to their originator, so they can track what sites are used regualrly - used for advertising purposes.
BUT, some are worse than that. I had one called "dialler". This overrides your dial up number on your modem (if you use a dial up connection) and dials a $3 a minute line. This would only effect people in the US too as its a US number is tries to dial. Also, it wouldn;t effect people on broadband connections.
Other ones do things such a record your keystrokes to send back to "home".. this means that all your passwords are given away, and your credit card number if you use that online.Gator (the one Jays site tries to load onto your machine) is fairly innoccuous, but in my opinion, as it records data used when filling in forms, it has the potentional to be more of a problem.
OK, so spyware is my current obsession, but it is something to think about.
Just been over to Jays just now.. WOW.. that has ALOT of popups.. within the first 15 seconds of being there, I had about 8 pop ups.. enough to be VERY annoying!!!

Having problems finding any for the Mac that are free I'm afraid.. done some searching and ended up annoyed that there is such a lack of resources for Mac users...
This one has been reccomended to me.. seems its only free for a week though :o(

Nikki,
What a nice thing for you to do, spending time on this for a poor Mac user. This is where it breaks down: it's not lucrative enough for businesses to make Mac software; anything new is always available first for Windows computers...
But I'll stick with my Ruby Red iMac any day!
Thanks again, and take care,
W.

I didn't ask but I certainly do agree. City councils have really bizarre things happen at meetings. Maybe there's a god-awful idea for a book there.
Thanks..
