Dr. Bob--Server problems?

Posted by medlib on January 9, 2003, at 15:46:12

Were there problems with the server earlier today? Things were verrrrry sllooow, even factoring in my snail-speed modem. Seems like I removed more duplicate posts than usual--a couple from people who don't usually. Just wonderin'.

Re your newest pic: Being your basic literal-minded Asperger type, I'm apparently compelled to ask..."Why?" (fully understanding that you're not compelled to answer, of course).

Hey medlib,

I inquired about the pic in a thread above (subject line comment about yer pic) and here was his response:

Alii---> P.S. Total aside here Dr. Bob but the washed out effect to the pic at the top of the pages is downright spooky. Are you just playing with your photoshop?

It's not Photoshop, but yes, I increased the brightness and decreased the contrast...

Alii--> When it first came up today I thought someone had readjusted my monitor settings to washed out!! :)

:-)

That's all I know. = ) As far as the slow servers.......you got me there.

Sorry, but I think this site is starting to tax the server. I think I need to shift it over to a database...

Thanks for doing that admin work! :-)

I was just trying out different settings and thought it would be a change of pace?

I found out I could get the server to be more efficient instead. Has anyone noticed a difference this week, by any chance?

Yes, Bob, it's acting much more screwy (for me, at least). Posts I've opened in the past would show as magenta coloured text. Posts not read were normal blue. This week all posts have been staying blue, even those I've read previously. The yellow 'new' icons still show okay. Maybe every time you've refreshed your site (I'm guessing), my text would show as unread. Sound plausible?

Couple of days ago threads wouldn't show either but that's normal now.

plus, it's still slow...

...and I have a fast cable connection. It's slower than most sites I use (unless another a site from *some* countries) & slower than it used to be.

Even those you read yesterday?

Oh well, back to the drawing board. :-(

Bob, please check out my post to Larry. In it, I mention problems I have with PB.

>But after the memory is dumped, all previously read posts show blue like unread ones so I missed it & forgot.

Quel bummer. But just think: if you were me, your previously read posts would be PINK! Ugh. (And the read posts are green, which makes this site baby-puke yellow, cotton-candy pink, and Kelly green.

beardy : )>

Weird. What browser and operating system, and what versions? And it's always when posting an answer? Posting for good, or sometimes just previewing, too?

Browser: MicroSoft IE; v. 6.0.2800.1106
OS: Windows 2000; v, 5.0
I also use Neetscape Navigator, but for your forum, I've stick to IE.
Can happen when either submitting for preview or for final post.

Going to get my son to check it over too this weekend.
