Dr. Bob -- Revisiting the List Idea

Posted by shar on August 19, 2002, at 12:25:48

I was surprised to read on PSB that Zo, IsoM, and Wendy are apparently currently blocked. I hadn't specifically thought about the dates, but felt that 'probably' their blocks were up and they were just choosing not to participate.

Was it decided previously that a list of blocked members and their potential date of return (should they care to) was not a good idea?

From a community standpoint, it would be helpful to have a posted, accurate list, especially when wondering 'where has SoandSo got to?' ie, have they gone or are they blocked.

Plus, it would be easier administratively to have the list posted because we could help remind you about the dates which I'm sure you would love. 8-)

Yes? No? Maybe?

Hmm, I would think some people might be a little embarassed to have their blocked status displayed more prominently.

But.....some of us get personally involved in the lives and stories of others on this board and worry when they disappear. Knowing that they are blocked for a certain amount of time might take some of the worry and stress away.

Iso is not blocked; she has been posting. Zo's block was long--four weeks, I think. And Wendy says she doesn't know when her block is up; she's not that concerned.

T,
That's very much how I feel about it. Especially since we've had people truly leave the board. It would be a comfort to know what's what.

No one is hiding the info on when/how long a person is blocked. If it is that important to someone, they could just look in the archives to see when it happened. I think listing who was blocked and when/how long is tacky.

I did sometimes get some flak for forgetting to unblock people, which of course is understandable, so what I've done now is just make it automatic. :-)

Please don't say anything that might make me feel put down or clodesque. Thank you. 8-)

I did not say you are tacky. Just that I felt
a list, to me, was tacky.
