When you think about it, medications and therapy are the two methods of mental health care most often used. Both are valid and useful treatments.
It would make a lot of sense to have a medications board, a therapy board, and a social board. That way it would be easier to do research on therapy topics, the way it is easier to do medication research on Psycho-Babble since it is a separate board.
It would be a useful place to discuss things like finding a good therapist, different theoretical orientations and techniques, group therapy, transference, etc. I don't suppose it would get the traffic that the medication board gets but I think it would be a nice complement to the current boards.
What do you think, Dr. Bob?

I don't think it would get many posts but could be wrong.
It seems like it would be a good add on to the tips section.
We'll see what the good doc says.

Hi Phil,
Well, I would certainly agree that it will probably never get as many posts as the meds board. But it occurs to me that there might be some self-selection going on. A lot of people find this site doing searches on Effexor or Lamictal, then find the social board as well. If the new board had time to get up and running, people doing searches on EMDR or CBT or DBT would also come across this site.
Of course, there are differences. Meds are a more factual subject. And therapists might object to clients going to a board where therapy is discussed, while pdocs might not mind if meds are discussed. But I'm not sure that is an altogether bad thing. Not getting therapists mad :), but demystifying the therapy process.

>>>demystifying the therapy process<<<
Great idea DM! I for one am eager to hear the experiences of other people about therapies I'm currently employing or have considered using.....People can share generalities without getting specific to their personal details. I know I would like to see an easier way of finding this information here at PB.

I've done a 180 on this. I like the idea. I'm anxious to find out about people who have done therapy, got well and moved on. To me, it doesn't work that way.
Anyway, it will be interesting.
There are some bizarre therapy's out there these days.
We'll probably need another board for transference issues only.Phil

I know that's why I read all of Phil's posts - I don't want to miss anything. Much better than getting your daily joke through e-mail.
This is the end of the thread.
