Mayby you remember, I wrote a while back about losing my "new" markers because every time I call up a PB site, it loads twice. It's still doing it and continues to be annoying.
I'm wondering whether it has something to do with this "movie loading" message that I get and the bar showing progress every time the page loads. I have never seen a movie or any moving thing on these sites. Am I missing something?
I use a Mac.Thanks.

You poor thing! That insomnia must really be messing you up. I have a Mac, too, but when it says, "Movie Loading," I see naked pictures of Dr. Bob. You don't know what you're missing!

Sounds like you might have your File Helpers in Preferences set to wrong app or plug in. Woops--if you use Netscape, DB can help. IE for Mac, I can help.Zo

Ah,
I have Netscape and Mac. And the message is "Importing Movie."
Thanks.

I have never seen a movie or any moving thing on these sites. Am I missing something?I bet "movie" means music in this case. It's like the opposite of a silent movie, sound without pictures.
As far as loading twice, have you seen this?

Or, I wonder if it has to do with character sets. Under Character Set, under the View menu, is "Western (ISO-8859-1)" checked?

Dr. Bob,
Thanks for the information. I followed all of the directions and it still imports the movie twice. One other thing it does that I didn;t mention before is that when I hit the "go to form" button, I get an error message (-50). But when I click on the message-writing field, everything is fine.
I don't get it.
Thanks for trying.

Now since making those adjustments, I have to input my name and password in order to send a message. Before it was automatic.

Did you check your Character Set setting, too?

Is there any message that goes with the error number? You do get the form despite the error?
What version of Netscape, and of the Mac OS?

Did it start remembering again after you reminded it?

The error message is this: Your last command could not be completed because of an unknown error (-50).
Yup, the character is set at Western.
Netscape Navigator 4.08. I have a later version, but I have trouble using it with the Cornell system, which uses 4.08.
Mac OS 9.2No, it doesn't remember me -- ever. I have to input my name and password every time.
Thanks.

Well that's not too helpful...

Western ISO-8859-1?

And you have both cookies and Javascript turned on?

A) Hate to say it, but MSoft has been making the superior Mac browser since 4.5. . .and I believe Netscape is particularly unstable with 9.2.2. (An OS I love and am *never* going to OS X.)
B) Better yet, altho it's a bit tricky to set up if you're new at this, try Opera. .. goes at *lightening* speed. It's scary how fast Opera loads a page--whomp! there it is.
C) BUT. . .whatever browser you use, go to versiontracker.com and download . . . Cookie Dog! For $5, he keeps the cookies you tell him to, like the log on here. . .and dumps the rest at every startup. I don't know how people live without him.
