pbabble discriminates against ADDers/fast typers

Posted by JohnX2 on March 11, 2002, at 1:55:24

Dr. Bob,

When I type a sentence in this dinky box it scrolls off the left of the screen.
I can't see what I am typing as I type it. This causes many in-flight blunders. To fix this I have to use the scroll bar at the bottom at go back-and-forth left-and-right
all the time. This is silly. I can hardly remember what I just typed with stuff flying off the screen so fast. Also my memory stinks being
part ADD and all. I seem to be missing the boat here. Either I am the only one with some goofed up setup. Or I am the only one who can't type a perfect sentence off the top of his head.
Does your scroll bar below slide off to the side as you type a sentence? Does what you just typed disappear while you are typing?

Sorry to whine.

Thanks,
John

John, other than using Netscape, what version is it? It's possible that the HTML standard that Dr. Bob uses isn't recognised by your browser & not all the ways he's set it up will set up the same way on your screen..

It shouldn't do that, what you type should automatically "wrap" to the next line. What browser are you using? And what version? And on what platform?

I get a scroll bar displayed, but it's disabled, because of the automatic wrapping, the only scrolling I can (or need) to do is up and down...

hmm. Lets see what happens if I just sit here in my other browser, Explorer. Gee, wiz. It auto-wraps. How nice that I can see what I am actually typing. This is such a treat. Maybe with the reduced anxiety I can cut 0.5 mg of Klonopin from my cocktail?

Seems my Netscape Communicator is ancient. I had both browsers installed (with Explorer being recent) but needed the password, thank you very much, to move over here.

It's going to take a lot of therapy to get over this discovery.

I had so many problems with Netscape Communicator when I first installed it that I never wanted to touch any settings. I just tried to find the setting to fix this hor. scroll bar..no where?

I actually use both browsers because one or the other crashes on a lot of web sites. Isn't that nice!

Good thing those well designed computer chips keep humming along unlike these clunky software packages, you think? :)

Thanks for getting back to me. Now I feel like I am not insane (or less insane). I couldn't understand how other people were typing in this other fashion. You should try it. Maybe they can use it for ADD or anxiety tests?

Best Regards,
John

It does that when I use the library computer. They have netscape. It does not do that on my work computer, where we have explorer. Does that have anything to do with it?

It might. What version of each?

Bob
