How do you do the redirects? just curious!

Posted by Janelle on April 1, 2002, at 1:07:40

Up till now I've posted on the Pyscho-Babble board (the one for medication-related issues) and I've come across a number of "re-directs" that contain a link to another board, e.g. the Social one.

I'm fascinated by online computer applications, and am curious to know how you do the re-direct posts? (one clicks on the link in a re-direct pst and one is *jumped* to the other board)

Do you do some kind of copy/paste of the original post that you want to re-direct?

Thanks!

Right, but that's nothing new, to have a link jump you from one place to another, right? :-)

Even easier, I just "post a new follow-up" and "include above post", and the server does it for me. :-)

Okay, I see where you I just "post a new follow-up" and "include above post", but would you also have to change the board to which the re-direct follow-up would go?

Okay, so you just "post a new follow-up" and "include above post", but how do you get the re-direct to appear on both the original board and with a link, so people will know it has been redirected to another board, and on the new board?

Are we allowed to test these things out here (on admin) to figure them out?

As you figured out, I change the board to get it to appear on the new board, and then I "post a new follow-up" again, this time not changing the board and including a link, to get it to appear on the original board.

Sure, but make clear it's a test, and I'll delete them later.

I follow what you said, and I take it that when you do the second "follow up" post on the original board (which provides the link to the new board), that you add in your own message about the redirect and questions belonging on this admin board?

I may or may not give in to the "urge" to test out a redirect on my own, since I understand the process now, but if I do, I sure will label it as a "test" - THANK YOU SO MUCH for letting me try it out if I so desire!
