Adcice needed...desperately...please!!

Posted by Jay2112 on May 12, 2022, at 18:20:45

OK, so, after being, once again, on anitriptyline for 2 months, I have noticed the largest positive effect on my depression and anxiety in many, many years. Amitriptyline was my first antidepressant back in 1994. Basically, it is the only antidepressant that has ever worked for me. But, there seems to be tons of scaremongering in the research that try to link antichollinergics with dementia. I am 52, and that is a huge scare for me. But, I am in university, and have not noticed any problems with memory, word retrieval (besides my usual problems with it).

Should I "stay the course", and continue with amitriptyline, as long as I don't notice mental agility deterioration? I have actually also been thinking of adding benztropine, to get a bit of a dopamine picker-upper (lol). I have also been thinking of paxil, to get both an antichollinergic and serotonin angle. Chollinergic depression seems to be my main problem. That stuff seems to cause my social anxiety, general anxiety, and deep depression.

What are your experiences with antichollinergics?..please and thank-you

Jay

Nortriptyline?

Nortriptyline is a metabolite of amitriptyline with very little anticholinergic activity. I currently take 100 mg/day. It is the best of the TCAs that I taken. I've been on just about all of them. Actually, as I reflect backwards, I have been on ALL of the

Nardil (phenelzine) - 60 mg/day
Nortriptyline - 100 mg/day
Lamotrigine - 300 mg/day
lithium - 300 mg/day
