I recently experienced a major stressor. Low and behold, I am hypomanic. This means debilitating anxiety, pressured activity, inability to sleep properly. Aka not fun.
I have a call out to my doc. What would you suggest as stopgap treatment? A few seroquel? A little Valium?
My regular meds work well: trintellix, lamotrigine (200 mg), pregabalin (25 mg).
My assumption is this episode will pass soon, I just want to feel comfortable and reduce the pressure.
Suggestions welcome!

A minimum of Valium and some Lyrica, perhaps 75mg?
I don't know anything about hypomania though.

>This is just my experience, but: benzodiazepines did not have any noticeable effect. Try 5-HTP (I can't say how much), and if that doesn't work, try 50 mg of sertraline. If that doesn't work try olanzapine or risperidone. If the key is histamine H1-antagonism and not dopamine, then quetiapine (Seroquel) would be expected to work.

>Wait, are you saying Seroquel wouldn't work? I suppose olanzapine would work, but I'm not real familiar with AP's. I don't currently take any now (they scare me). I'll keep that in mind when I talk with him.
For the record, I hated Abilify and how it made me feel from day one. Would olanzapine feel the same?
Btw, thank you!

He prescribed a little zyprexa. I had it in the hospital and don't remember because I slept through it.
I really need some sleep!

In my experience, Zyprexa (olanzapine) worked almost instantly to put the fire out. I was not hypomanic, though. I was beyond that. I was delusional. Because most people gain weight on Zyprexa, it is not an ideal answer if you need to cover a period of time longer than a few weeks. I have a *hunch* that Zyprexa works quickly and completely enough to be able to use it for 5-7 days, and then be able to discontinue it without hypomania reemerging. In the days before olanzapine, doctors often combined lithium with a benzodiazepine, usually clonazepam.
How would you characterize Trintellix?

I was left some Zyprexa and found that minimal doses were fine, less than 2mg. Real sleep.

>Probably not, they are very different. Many people find that Abilify has an antidepressant action at low doses, but it never worked for me.

For hypomania, you can always use a single supratheraputic dose of magnesium.

Thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate the input!
I've been sleeping a lot, which is good, but on the heels, my mood has taken a downturn. Hypomania in my case is always followed by a depressive episode, and I'm hoping to avoid that :(
I've been stable for a long time.
Zyprexa will be for a very short time. AP's are not a sustainable treatment because it messes with my blood sugar levels.

>Not all APs do that, although Zyprexa does -- in fact, it is the worst of them all.
