An open-label clinical trial (n=39) of multi-Watt Neuro-Luminance demonstrated effectiveness for depression. Overall, 92% of patients responded and 82% remitted, which is notably better than the response rate for oral antidepressants. Patients saw benefits within 4 treatments, and some achieved resolution of depressive symptoms within 8 treatments. In follow-up telephone interviews, patients report sustained improvements.
The above clinical trial was conducted at Neuro-Luminance in Centennial, Colorado. In addition to treating depression, the clinic also treats bipolar disorder, ADHD, PTSD, TBI, anxiety, insomnia, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's.

Harold Kraft is an MD in Southern California who treats the brain with a laser even more powerful than the laser used by Neuro-Luminance in Colorado.

Safety demonstrated?

These powerful lasers have been tested on animal cadavers. (I think a goat might have been one of them.) The light penetrated the skull and went several centimeters into the brain, and it did no damage to the brain tissue. What the laser does is protect the brain.

There is some danger of eye damage from these lasers. That's why people who receive this treatment wear eye protection.

Will there be clinical trials or will it remain a non proven thing like rTMS?

I've spoken with Larry Morries of Neuro-Luminance and Harold Kraft on the phone. Both men with very helpful. Neuro-Luminance treats its patients about twice a week. So a course of treatment would take one or two months.
I don't know if Harold Kraft would agree to treat a mental illness that wasn't related to brain injury. He told me that he'd treat my depression, since it might be related to two concussions I suffered as a child. Kraft said he could probably get good results by treating me five days a week for two weeks.

Larry Morries and Theodore Henderson of Neuro-Luminance have worked with Harvard University on a clinical trial involving the use of lasers to treat TBI.
