Hi, I am doing well on Risperidone 3mg bid valproate cr 1g, and fluoxetine 20- which was just discontinued few days back as i might be going on a different or additional antipsychotic in near future. Im taking a combination pill of Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), Daidzein, Genistein for its wonderful rapid effect on me for depreseion and also pain, and im thinking of combining with mag. citrate, fish oil, and coq10, plus multivitamin. I want to make sure if this is okay as such. thanks for any clue.

There is some evidence for taking the nutrients you list as possibly helpful for depression and other mood disorders.
However some neutriceuticals can interact with medications through the Liver P450 enzymes metabolism which in some cases are impacted by both. I have read this about curcumin/turmeric for instance. I have not investigated fish oil, magnesium, co-Q10 for these interactions. I have found that high doses of some B-Vitamins (often recommended by Naturopaths) increase my anxiety. But everyone is different, and these seem to be a common add-on to AD therapy.
Most articles on supplements as add-ons to medications say "check with your Doctor first", but most doctors have no information on these. Some will just say "avoid" because of this.
I would suggest if you're going to add supplements, first do a google search for interactions with your specific meds, then add just 1 at a time and waiting several weeks before adding another to ascertain which, if any, might be causing adverse interactions.
Magnesium citrate (and some other forms) can cause diarrhea in some people (did with me). I now take Magnesium Glycinate or Bisglycinate which is much less likely to do this.

OH - and magnesium can affect the absorption of a number of medications. Best to take 2-4 hours before or after meds.

I think that is a really good idea. Genistein: That sounds really interesting. Can you tell us what you know?

well, the pill containing Palmitoylethanolamide, daidzein, genistein was given to me by a pdoc two years ago, and I find it has beneficial effect on depression for me. my illness is depression and rage attacks, some type of szaffective acc. to docs. i dont know much about the ingredients except the latter two are phytoestrogens and Palmitoylethanolamide if i recall enhances anandamide signalling, it is the "bliss" molecule of our brain.

I googled it and you recalled correctly. Is Palmitoylethanolamide ok to take when you have schizophrenia and take antipsychotics?
