Any thoughts on comparing these two?

the effexor has a broad dosing range and effects change around...is it 150mgs? i forget.

zoloft is...numbing, in my experience. i could see high doses for OCD, but I don't see how it could help depression with anhedonia, lethargy, etc. i could be wrong, of course.

Sertraline gave me bad Akathisia. Aside from that it was good for depression. Had to discontinue. Venlafaxine helps me but not nearly as much as Sertraline.

If I remember correctly, Sertraline effects Serotonin, Norepinephrine and even Dopamine to a certain extent. Of that whole family it'd be the one I'd pick for myself.

Hey link....

I have now tried, numerous times, to taper off venlafaxine to sertraline, only to come back to the former. High doses of that, and amitriptyline, have been the only meds that work consistently to keep anxiety and depression at bay. But, I have to go high dose..I have been on these meds for decades. I think, honestly, like has been written, the meds that got you well are the ones that will keep you well.

Thanks for your reply. I have a mixed relationship with venlafaxine. On the one hand, it does help anxiety, and some symptoms of depression, but overall I feel disconnected, and my moods seem to be more on the dark side.

On escitalopram or sertraline, my moods were a bit brighter, but also more akathesia, cognitive problems.

Is vortioxetine (Trintellix) available in Canada? It is particularly good when treating depression that presents with cognitive impairments.

Hi SLS,

Yes trintellex is available in Canada, but I don't have insurance and the cost would be astronomical at this stage (probably a few hunderd bucks a month).

Yeah, contrary to popular belief, we don't have free health care in Canada. We have free doctors visits, but if you can't afford the treatment you're S.O.L.
Also, many medications in Canada can be MUCH more expensive than they are in the US.

A month of generic fluoxetine (last time I checked) was close to $50 at Wallmart. A friend in the US told me it was closer to $5 there.

Crazy.

Hi Scott:

I tried the trintellex sample packs, and they made me feel horrible!! Way more depressed! Two, three times I tried. I am going to try for Vybrid (sp?) next...but a bummer, as they removed serzone and generic nefadazone from the market here in Canada, and that worked awesome in tag-team with nortriptyline. I am NOT stopping until I get 80/90 percent better. I have a stressful career move into addictions coming up, so...gotta armour up..lol.

Best,
Jay

Yeah, I haven't heard a lot of phenomenal reports for trintellex. If the medication worked well for depression, then yes, the cognitive benefit would be welcome.
